I entered from the lower Eskdale Road end by the substation & walked up the bush track where current upgrades are being made to the track to protect Kauri from Die Back.

I must say I'm disgusted. Why are my rates dollars being spent on replacing 2 bridges that are solidly robust, cutting through 550M of bush & opening up the track wider. It doesn't need to be wider. It's not a footpath. In doing so trashing the bush removing native vegetation like punga. That has nothing to do with Kauri die back. Why build 2 new bridges?

What's more disgusting than all the bush they've cut out to widen or redirect the track is at the main juction bridge there seems to be no care about the ecosystem at that spot.

Trees cut down fallen into the creek or across it. There's glow worms in there, with small birds that used to be able to fly under the bridge & creek life.

Sort it out Auckland Council. Give a damn about one of my favourite tracks & it's ecosystem that your trashing. Who's come up with those brilliant idea's. You better make the foot cleaning entrance suitable for dogs to get through unlike some of the bone breaking footsteps installed elsewhere on the shore. I shouldn't have to carry my dog over it.

And consider better spend of my rates dollars. Not happy at all when you can't even sort out a consent breach & signed it off as OK in Vonnell Place...

Wonderful hidden rainforest walk on the shore. New walkway makes the walk ideal for a safe run or walk with kids. The whole reserve might take about 2 to 3 hours to cover at a moderate pace. Great little saturday adventure for the family. Take water, insect repellent and some snacks/sandwiches to have at the picnic tables in the side park. There is a decent swimming hole and a few small waterfalls. Really cool place to visit. Dogs on leads are allowed but we noticed that no one had their...

It’s awesome.

Who knew such awesome bush is RIGHT THERE in suburbia.

A credit to council and community. THIS is what makes Akld liveable. And we don’t live there 😁

Absolutely beautiful. Our first visit to Eskdale Reserve in some years, and the paths have been greatly improved. They are wide and accessible- great for bikes and prams, maybe even a wheelchair (although a few steeper spots to be careful of). Dogs allowed. No toilets. Parking on Eskdale Rd somewhat limited but we managed to find something on a busy Saturday. Our two kids ages 3 and 5 had a fantastic time. We’ll be back.

I am glad we chose this place last Saturday. It was really a great walking trail that offers so many different walks for different folks and you can choose a long or short trail or you can do all. The bush was lush, little stream running inside. Mu mates and I truly enjoyed it. Good for hiking, dog walking, mountain biking or simply enjoying the fernery and big trunked kauris.
