Our visit to the railway museum was a wonderful experience as we had Bruce to give us a tour of the museum and explain his experience and knowledge of the Tangiwai Disaster. Having visited the memorial, it was a totally different experience having someone who had personally been there give us an account of the events and the effect it had on the community. There was also a few things for young train enthusiasts to play with too. We learnt so much from our visit about the history of Ohakune....
Read moreWow - this place is loaded with fascinating history. The artifacts, models, displays and photos really illustrate the rich history of the railway in the Ruapehu region. Bruce and the volunteers do a wonderful job of describing places and events such as the Tangiwhai Disaster. This place is s must visit treasure! Dress warm if it's cold - as there is no insulation in those old timber buildings (which adds to the whole experience! ). Luv your work ORM!!...
