Trust House Recreation Centre — Attraction in Masterton

Pros: reasonable facilities, handy location.

Cons: booking lessons is very painful

We’ve tried and failed numerous times to book lessons here.

Firstly they don’t publish a schedule instead you have to email them to enquire.

Secondly the schedule they send through seems to rapidly change.

One of our kids had their lessons cancelled as they claim there was someone with the same first name + uncommon surname combination that had signed up for the same lesson and then cancelled and they cancelled our kid instead and weren’t going to let her attend until we complained further.

Another kid we signed up to lessons within two days of them emailing us the schedule only to be told after they charged us that they were going to change one of our kids from the time and level we signed him up for to a different time and level.

I’m genuinely amazed they manage to keep anyone for lessons considering how painful it is to coordinate with them and especially considering how fast and effective the other local swim school (Jill’s swim school) is at organising lessons and arranging times.

The only plus I can say is the pool itself is decent and the kids enjoy going there with a handy location by park. Other than that would definitely not recommend them...

Disappointing We went there on a hot summer day, arrived at 4:45 pm, asked at reception till what time it will be open. They said till 6pm. Ok. 20 dollars to enter for a family of 5. Discovered that the hydro slide is closed, because of too hot weather. (Of course, when else would you normally use a swimming pool? Why would anyone go there on a hot summer day? Why would you want to use a slide on a hot summer day?? 😀Haha) . Spa pool also closed “for cleaning”. Again - why would anyone clean it on a hot summer day? Why not clean it in the evening? The diving pool outside was also closed 🤣 opened for 10 minutes at 5:30 pm and closed again. At 5:40pm staff started collecting equipment and by 5:45 asked everyone to vacate the outside pool.... I though that lady at reception said they were open till 6? All in all - we expected much more from this well advertised swimming pool. Reality is - just an ordinary pool, same as any other...

BEWARE! Definitely don't recommend this place. Apparently thieves have been operating there for a while and security cameras don't work. Went to the pool with my family today for the first time and, as there were no lockers available, we had to leave our bag in the cubicles provided. We felt comfortable as there was a big warning about security cameras. However, our bag was taken, $120 was stolen from our wallet and the bag left in the Male changing rooms. Staff didn't offer any kind of support and said the cameras were not in working order. When reporting the incident to the police, the officer told us that this was the 4th similar case she registered in the last 3 days at the Masterton pools. The Police told us that the security cameras have been down for ages. So, if you plan to have a great time in Masteton, think twice about going to (UN)Trust House...
