Unique and Beautiful Breakfast Creations New Zealand breakfasts and baked goods are generally very very high, but the Trocadero Coffee bar takes it to another level. I've eaten here a few times during our two month stay in Masterton, but I keep returning to explore the menu, and this morning was no different. The Trocadero cafe is the "Go To" brekky heaven when feeling a little dusty from the night before. Visit #1The creamy mushrooms with a perfect soft poached egg on soft focaccia bread is a delight. Sprinkled with Dukkah and hazelnuts and crowned with a delicate cheese crisp, is a sheer goodness on a plate. Visit #2The Eggs Benedict is a classic and the potato hash was light and crispy, the hollandaise had the right amount of vinegar zing and seriously crispy bacon. Not the easiest breakfast dish to get right but the crew did-Perfection! Visit #3 was no exception to the rule so a Reuben sandwich was the saviour of the day. Crisp Ciabatta bun encased a wonderful mix of thinly sliced beef, melted cheese, red onion marmalade and sliced gherkin with a few salty pretzels. A small portion of mayonnaise with a sprinkle of paprika would have helped, just a suggestion...:) The flat whites are deep and chocolaty all made by Pam the Creative Caffeine Barista decorates the creamy froth with teddy bears and words of kindness. The menu's are bound in children's book covers and I guess thats not only make the cafe cute but also kid friendly. Well done to the owners and chef. Keep up the high standards. See you tomorrow!

My suggestion is not to go here unless you're a local or just want a takeaway coffee. My partner and I came in yesterday and spent close to $50 on coffee and French toast. The coffee was 5 star, the older lady that served us was just lovely. Sadly, 'Paige' the cook (we know her name because it was called) had a terrible attitude. TL;DR was just childish and grumpy. Food itself was 2 stars. Great presentation and fresh fruit but the french toast was dry and tasteless while my partner's bacon was under cooked. Clearly a mistake was made with the order and cooking, it's a shame Paige did not exhibit the maturity to rectify it like any adult would.

Beautiful cafe with Wellington-standard People's coffee on espresso & filter in the heart of Masterton. Newly-refurbished open-air space out back; dog friendly; mouth-watering gluten-free menu. This is a really special place and the hard-working young team make me feel like I'm at a badass Cuba Street cafe in Wellington. It's dog-friendly too! Toilets are unisex. Cute af menus stitched inside cute kids' books that we all had back in the day... I really cannot say enough positive things about this place. Just go - you won't regret it.

Visited a very popular cafe in Masterton today—absolutely packed and fully booked inside. Luckily, there was a lovely outdoor area with available seating, which made for a pleasant setting.

We ordered pancakes with lemon ice cream for the kids, and they were a real hit—beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. The English breakfast tea was solid, no complaints there.

Unfortunately, the coffee didn’t quite meet expectations. The flat white was, well, a little too flat—lacking heat and strength. The halloumi roll had potential, but it seemed to have spent too long under the press, making it a bit too crispy and overdone for my liking.

Staff were friendly and welcoming, but clearly overwhelmed by the high volume of customers, which led to a longer wait time for our order.

One thing to note—the prices felt a little on the high side for what we got. Not outrageous, but just a bit more than I’d expect given the overall experience.

All in all, it’s easy to see why the place is popular—great vibes and some standout items on the menu. But personally, I wouldn’t rush back. If you’re passing through and craving a good pancake, definitely worth a stop. Otherwise,...

Trocadero is just the best best best eatery in Masterton. Such amazing, friendly and consistent service.

The staff at Trocadero are so EXPERIENCED, which is rare, so happy, friendly, efficient and genuinely care about their customers and establishment.

Food is just excellent, so fresh and quality ingredients. There is quite literally something at Trocadero for every occasion: Breakfast, casual lunch, fancy lunch, dinner, snacks, coffee, cake… Reasonably priced and well made. Ps the paninis in the cabinet will be the death of me.

The vibe is amazing, buzzy, happy, relaxed. Love the deco and theme, everything is good quality and thought about. The courtyard out the back is great.

Please give Trocadero a go, support local, support good service, good...
