The Redwoods Forest is a forest of coastal redwood on the outskirts of Rotorua, New Zealand, adjacent to the Whakarewarewa thermal area. There are 6 hectares (15 acres) of Californian redwoods. The trees were planted at the beginning of the 20th century as part of a programme to assess the viability of various exotic tree species for commercial forestry in New Zealand. No entry fees. The view from the lookout is not that impressive. More impressive is the ground view of the forest with the the tall equally spaced trunks creating a magical effect. It was drizzling when we went there but the tree canopy minimized the rain impact. Very popular place, lots of tourists and locals. Fair bit of walking around under shade.
