TL;DR: Do it. Great views, great safety, great people, great fun. Put it on your list then reach over and scribble it on your neighbor's list too.
Our experience during this adventure could hardly have been any better. Towering Redwood trees on all sides, beautiful flora down beneath you, and excellent people making sure you stay safe and have fun at the same time.
Of course the beautiful forest is the real subject of the tour, but the ones who make or break it are the people, and our people made the experience one to remember. We had Dezz as our fearless leader, who was quick with a joke but also showed a lot of care in making sure that everyone was able to operate their safety gear correctly. She had many enthralling stories about the Redwood forest, the creatures within it, and even New Zealand as a whole. Her energy was boundless and her enthusiasm for her job was unmatched.
We also had Larry as one of our guides. She went ahead of us and made sure that the way was clear as well as making sure we made it safely across the zip lines as well as down the descender. She had excellent interaction with both the folks on the tour and the other tour guides. I wish her well in her future endeavors.
Lastly in our guiding group we had Tia. She was the stalwart one, diligently checking our safety gear, as well as the path to ensure we were taken care of. With all 3 of the guides, it was difficult to imagine a situation where any of our safety gear would ever be put to the test.
Of course, there is also Chris. There are so many good things that could be said about him that it's difficult to say anything at all. A pillar of the community.
The tour may have only been 2 hours long, but with the right tour group, it can be a lasting experience.
The only bit of feedback I would have is that it would be great if they had 90° stitched slings or carabiners to prevent or reduce the turning on...
Read moreThe guides were great, but the issue I have is with the design on the ends of the zip lines. I believe it was this design that caused serious damage to my knee. Several months off work, surgery and still a long way off full recovery. Just wasn't worth doing for the last 9 months of pain that I have had.
Edit in reply to your comment. I think your use of the words 'It's an adventure activty' show how poor your attitude is towards accidents. Here's some of the things that happened to my knee. The lateral collateral ligament was severly torn, my patellar ligament was torn, my patella was knocked out of place and damaged. There was a bucket handle tear on the meniscus which then flipped backwards into the joint as it came apart. Although your guides were good along the course they were completely at a loss to deal with any accident. There was no offer of any first aid. It was on the last zipline when it happened. I asked if I could be lowered from the final platform but was told I had to jump as normal. I ended up on the ground on my back, would have done more damage to my knee there. Then although there is a track back to your Starting point, there was no offer of any sort of vehicle to drive me back, I had to walk. Then when back there was no record made of the accident, only told that someone would probably ring to see how i was. The accident wasn't reported to the correct authority (I know, I checked with them). So with you not keeping any records of acccidents no one but yourself would have any idea of how many there were and how serious they are.
My knee is still recovering and a long way off from being back to where it once was. Definately would warn anyone away from...
Read moreI cannot recommend this experience enough. I have never done anything like this. It was exciting and scary too, but I felt safe through out thanks to the care shown by the crew, who I will get to in a minute.
It is a marvel how they have setup the Altitude circuit 30m off the ground in these tall redwoods trees. It was very interesting to experience the forest from this vantage point. The different types of rope and cable bridges and ziplines were a lot of fun to traverse.
Perhaps the most important aspect was the crew who accompanied us - Shane and Nick. They made us feel at ease, explained everything patiently, and were very friendly and had great people skills. They made it a point to get to know everyone in the group (of about 9 peope I think) on a first name basis, made conversation with everyone and engaged everyone, wihtout exception throughout.
Shane and Nick were very helpful when I lost my camera due to my own inattentiveness, which I had magnetically attached to my shirt (the camera was Insta 360 Go 2). They guided me in my search for it on the forest floor, assured me that they would look for it too and tell other staff at Redwoods to do the same. They took my details and I offered a $200 reward to whoever found and returned it. The camera was later found, and the staff at Redwoods sent it to me in Auckland by post. Not only did the staff refuse the reward, but refused to take the cost of sending the camera to me as well. Just great wholesome people overall.
10/10 would recommend. Shout out to Shane and Nick and the staff at...
