Best Fish and Chip shop experience I've had, needed to leave a proper review..
-I was first drawn to the franchise because of the logo. I thought it was symplistic, modern and trendy, finding it via google maps was easy and in a conveniant loction for taupo locals or passing travellers.
-Upon arrival the shops aestetics instantly caught my eye because it was clean and well looked after from the inside and out.
-I was greeted by the owner upon arriving with good energy and a pleasant, lasting conversation. When I walked in the small space was utilized perfecty. The seating was positioned nicely out of the way from the que and entrance while the rest of the room was open and free for efficient service.
-The interior design was very authentic and much of it was hand crafted. This gave a unique feel you don't get in other regular priced fish and chip shops which are often very plain.
-The outdoor sitting area also looked pleasant to sit in, the space was bigger than the other surroinding franchises and could account for a large or many groups of people without feeling too overcrowded.
-My fish and chips were really tasty and good value too! My nuggets weren't too expensive and it was real chicken! Not processed 👊🙏❤️
This review may seem overkill for a fish and chip shop but 10/10, amazing experience! Will be coming back and wishing you the...
Read moreWish I could give a better rating, but unfortunately we were left disappointed in several ways. Hopefully, Catch 22 takes this feedback on board, as we’d really love to see this takeaway return to the great standard it once had when we lived here.
Service: When we walked in, we weren’t greeted. Instead, the staff member continued reading a magazine or catalogue while I stood there awkwardly waiting. I was finally served only after she finished reading, which didn’t make for a good first impression.
Food: We ordered the classic Cheesy Weezys—something we grew up enjoying from this shop. Sadly, the cheese, which used to be generous, was barely more than a sprinkle this time. Our fairly average-sized order came out after two other average orders that were placed after ours.
Atmosphere: After eating, we looked for a rubbish bin but were told to use the public bins outside by the other shops. These were already overflowing, mostly with rubbish from fish and chips . As a local who grew up here, it was disappointing to see this. A dedicated rubbish bin for the shop’s waste should really...
Read moreVERY DISAPPOINTED. The website needs updating as the menu has changed and it seems to be under new management? We spent a lot of money on our kai and couldn't eat any of it. It was inedible. All the chips were soggy and greasy (3 types). The cheese on the cheesy weeseys wasn't even melted. The batter on the crabsticks didn't cover the crabsticks. The hoki, cod and muscles tasted stale and were overcooked. The meat in all 3 burgers was RAW and the home made tartare and aioli sauce didnt taste like tartare and aioli sauce. I don't know what that was. Tried to call to give feedback and kept getting the engaged dial tone. According to their website they were closed. If your looking for good fresh tasty fish n chips, this is NOT the place to go. If I could give no stars I would.
Update. I managed to get a hold of the owner who was rightly appalled. A refund is being processed and assurance was given that these concerns will be followed up....
