Read moreTurning left just before crossing the historic bridge to get to Shotover river from Queenstown you find yourself on a gravel road leading to the Historic Tunnel Walk. The gravel road become difficult to cross with out a 4x4 however the short walking distance adds to the scenic walk.
The tunnel opening can not be viewed from the top of the cliff where the trail leads you, rather it can only be viewed by kayak on the other had where the water exits the tunnel can be excess by going off the trail it self. The detour is not recommended to be undertaken on a rainy day as the edge is steep and slippery.
