Absolutely stunning! The road was definitely worth it.
Whilst advertised to be 15 mins from Queenstown, allow more time. There is an unsealed road to navigate for the last “10 minutes”, which advises 4WD only access in spring and winter. The main issue is ruts and pot holes, but these weren’t too bad and I managed in a ford focus (in September), for what it’s worth.
You’re rewarded with outstanding views, and I think the trip would even be worth it if you didn’t want to hike the loop- just standing near the carpark you get panoramic stunning views.
The hike is easy to moderate with some gentle uphill sections, took me about 90mins to cover the 6km (with lots of photography stops!). Was a bit muddy though with some small streams crossing the path in areas.
