A fantastic view to be had at the top. Well worth the climb. We walked from the Old Mill Cafe rather than drive, making use of the various walkway "shortcuts" on the way up. The climb up the peak itself is picturesque but a little muddy after rain. The last 50 metres is very steep and will give those who suffer from vertigo a run for their money. There is a car park not far from the base of the peak, and there is a drop off cul de sac right at the base. Sturdy walking shoes are a must, and care when taking photos at the summit. There are a number of interesting historical plaques with photos and text along the way to enhance the experience. The track is very narrow in places so passing groups going the opposite direction is common and requires courtesy and an amount of "stepping asideโ. The track is about 15 minutes but rises steeply up to the summit with some rock clambering at the end to reach the trig point. Definitely not a walk for mobility challenged walkers or small children. Partial views of Tairua, Pauanui, and the open ocean along the way. At the top, expansive views South across Pauanui beach and out to Mayor Island. You can also do a loop walk following Motuhoa Road around from the playpark, ignore the private property signs and use the track to link to Oceana Heights on the North side of Paku before linking again to Motuhoa Road and back up to...
