Eggs Benedict with an Iced Coffee. An additional hash brown and cream added to the coffee.
The food is good. Its very straight forward kiwi brunch-ish, with the addition of Turkish eggs and some Vegan options. But its straight forward food, done well. Which is really hard to hide behind. It's obviously prepared in house. The Hollondaise is delicious. Thick, creamy, and was such a perfect coating to the eggs. The eggs were perfectly poached and, once cut, spilled their golden centers as if from a chalice.
The additional hash brown was rectangular/cuboid in shape. Deeply fried. Golden. Uber crispy. A perfect vehicle for the hollandaise and egg yolk. And the cream on my iced coffee was perfectly whipped.
The plates could have been a bit warmer, as could have the dining room. But the day was a windy, rainy one in the middle of winter. So perhaps I should have had the Mulled wine instead of the iced coffee - but I was driving and hindsight is 20/20.
The restaurant is very charming, and aside from getting stink-eye from an elder who was seated after us, we had a lovely time. I don't understand not being able to make some small changes to some dishes when...
Read moreThe Mill has a lovely location less than 20 m from the estuary. They have a small selection of ready-made savory and sweet food. They have a good selection of coffees. There is a passible amount of inside seating. Overall the decor is tidy but is at that stage of needing a spruce up and refresh. In fact, the cafe is due to close on the 4th of June 2019 for one month. The cheesecake was absolutely scrumptious and I can definitely recommend it. The tea, however, was weak and not particularly enjoyable, although it was hot. The staff were friendly enough but not engaging or interactive. Overall, I felt the pricing was acceptable and the ambiance was quite nice. On the day we were there, there was a gentleman playing an acoustic guitar quietly in the main eating area. I found this quite relaxing and not particularly intrusive. I have no idea if this is a daily thing or whether he only comes to play on the weekends or just what the deal is. I would visit there again, but it would be nice to have the staff little more interactive and the tea a lot stronger! Hopefully they will use the month of downtime to do a little Renovation and sprucing up of the...
Read moreI will have to say that the food was excellent and we have been there before and it was also just as good. But this most recent time we have gone there as part of a holiday to Tairua our food took 2 HOURS to arrive at our table and no one even came out to tell us that something had gone wrong or to appologise or let us know, they just all walked past and served others. We werent the only ones waiting either, and just because a couple had complained about the wait they were served their food first after having arrived at least half an hour after we did. At the end we finially got our food and then went to pay and just mentioned it would have been nice to have been let know if that there was such a wait or atleast have someone say something, and all we got was a rude waiter who gave us a pile of excuses such as they were short staffed and other restaurants have been closing down and arent open today so we have an extra large number of people to serve... NOT a sinle appology at all, just rudeness which did ruin the evening extremely despite the good...
