Sadly not one of our better experiences at the Tairua Beach Club. Our table wasn’t ready and it would’ve been just under an hour later before we saw menus and drinks. We’re patient people – could see lots of full tables and few staff and assessed the situation. Lots to say really …. asked if we wanted desserts, but still hadn’t received mains ….. etc etc... My wife was sad. She’d chosen the restaurant over others that would’ve been also much handier, wanting it to be special as our friend travelled to be with us for his Big Oh Birthday on the actual day and the rest of us had always enjoyed our visits here. There had to be a sober driver too … a lot happened to make this fab (we had a very big, old red to enjoy when we got home to make up for the kind sober driver, but we were over it and tired by the time we returned). Only writing, because our table took one for the team and for our group it was supposed to be special and perfect and at the least listening to an apology would’ve been appreciated instead of excuses (we understand that things go wrong). We’ll soon and forever laugh about it and certainly won’t forget the evening :) We’ve been to the Tairua Beach Club many times and know in advance that we’re paying a lot, but it was always worth it, but this time we departed feeling very...
Read moreOur Valentines Day dinner was a complete disaster. We had driven all the way from Thames for a special dinner together and I went home hungry, upset and disappointed.
My bf ordered the eye fillet well done and I the Prawn Saganaki. My bf’s steak was so overcooked and tough, it should never have left the kitchen and I’m genuinely shocked it did. I know he asked for well done but As soon as it landed on the table you could tell it was charred and dry beyond belief. My bf isn’t the type to send back food so I watched him struggle to cut through it the entire meal. The steak was $49.
My prawn saganaki was SO spicy it was inedible. I got asked how was it and was honest and said it was way too spicy and I couldn’t eat it. Didn’t even get a slight discount for it off the bill. It was $44.
The bread was…bread. Nothing to write home about. Best part of our meal were the cocktails. The service was fine, no complaints there. But it r urned into an expensive cocktail night.
Ended up getting tacos from Johnny’s Tairua on the way home cos we were both so disappointed and I was still hungry having not eaten my main.
I know they were busy being V Day but no chef would’ve eaten that steak they sent out. And at $49 you do not drop your standards. Dropped the ball big time and really ruined...
Read moreReally, really good service. We were there for breakfast. I had Turkish eggs, which I would happily have again, and good coffee. The other meals had at the table were eggs bene and scrambled eggs, both of which got the thumbs up. We had two small dogs with us, which was not a problem. We sat outside and had a lovely view of the harbour. We returned for dinner a couple of weeks a couple of weeks later. From start to finish the meal was well presented and absolutely delicious. I had mussels in a coconut and ginger broth, which was one of the specials that night. The rest of the table had oysters natural and the scallop starter. For the mains we had duck (which was a starter that one of us had as a main), tuna steak, and scallop arancini. For sides we had eggplant chips and a Thai salad. Dessert was a chocolate fondant, apple pie in a caramel cage, and donuts. The wine, beer and cocktail selection is good and the service was again excellent. I absolutely reccomend dinner here and I intend to return. Update: I've been back multiple times since I did my original review. TBC has yet to disappoint me. Tonight I did a pick order for dessert (donuts for my partner, a reliable favourite, and caramel...
