The Piha Lookout is a must-stop on the way down to the beach. The drive up is winding and scenic, and once you reach the top, the view is simply incredible — when the weather allows it. On clear days you get a sweeping panorama of Piha Beach, Lion Rock, and the rugged west coast; on foggy days, the entire view can vanish under a sea mist, which has its own kind of moody beauty.
There’s a small pull-over area where you can safely park and take photos, but space is limited, so a bit of patience might be needed if it’s busy. The spot is perfect for a quick break to soak in the coastal scenery before heading down to explore the beach itself.

Nearby attractions and services are available and are suitable for all choices and interests. Bit of mountainous road, but it's well maked and directive to reach your desired destination of Piha. It has more than one section or zone, so don't leave the place without having seen all the other nearby other sides of the beach. Read moreNot much to say. This was a stop on the tour we were doing and it's a great view. It's adjacent to the beach where they filmed parts of the HBO show "our flag means death" but it looks pretty similar. Our tour guide told us that the sand gets very hot and demonstrated why, as most of it is magnetic and absorbs the sun's rays so be careful how far away from the water you take if your shoes. The view is great and my wife dipped her feet in the water. There is an ice cream stand nearby and people who got ice cream there said it was really good and the waffle cones were amazing. Unfortunately my wife didn't want any but I wish I got...
