An easy walk here from the southern part of Piha Beach. This area of the southern beach is best known for two local sites: The Keyhole (a natural tunnel), and the Gap and Blue Pools. You can easily reach both at low tide by walking along south along the water from Piha Beach. If the tide is high, use the trail from the south parking lot to hike up to Tasman overlook, then just keep hiking south past the overlook until the trail heads back down to the beach and the Blue Pool. The Blue Pool is a great place for laying in the sun in n the beach that surrounds it, and a nice place for soaking and swimming, too. The beach here is also usually less crowded and more private than the main beach area, and is sometimes somewhat sheltered from the wind. A “must see” when you come to Piha!

Watch the powerful Tasman Sea surge into natural rock tunnels, creating impressive plumes of water – a fantastic photo opportunity! Enjoy invigorating coastal walks with stunning ocean views. Good to know for your visit: The exposed rocks can be sharp, so wear sturdy footwear. Due to the potentially hazardous terrain and the nature of the blowholes. Really wouldn't advise swimming in this area, head around to the Blue Pool Getting there involves a scenic drive from Auckland. Be aware that parking can be limited, especially during peak times. While not a swimming beach due to the rugged coastline and powerful waves, Taitomo Rock provides a thrilling display of nature's power. It's a unique and memorable coastal stop.

Scrambled our way up the rock, there are stellar views of piha up top! trail is pretty easy to find, but some parts are made up of sand so caution is necessary antigravity rocks are a bit harder to get to- scramble down at the end of the track but be careful as there is a steep drop!

Taitomo Rock is on the left side of the Piha beach. Surfers use it a passage way to brave the swell and waves.

It was such a beauty to see especially when you are in the Piha beach anyway.

My friend who surfs told me that the passage in low tide actually is mostly shallow. I would love to go back and take a video of the surfers entering through Taitomo...
