If you're restricted on time, I would recommend giving this one a miss and focusing your effort towards other rewarding walks (e.g. Franz Josef, Fox Glacier, Lake Matheson). The walk is quite steep, mostly uphill and the pay off is just a slightly higher view of the glacier (you see just a little more of the ice) from view. In retrospect I wouldn't have done this.
