The Helicopter Line Franz Josef Glacier — Attraction in South Island

Visited The Helicopter Line at Franz Josef Glacier in September 2025 and it was an unforgettable experience, truly one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip! We were originally scheduled to fly the day before but due to poor weather, the flight was postponed. The staff handled everything professionally and were very accommodating, keeping us updated and rescheduling for the next morning when the skies finally cleared. Their communication and service were excellent, making the whole process smooth and stress-free.

When we finally took off, it was absolutely worth the wait. The 20-minute flight was magical, flying over lush rainforests, icy valleys and the stunning Franz Josef Glacier. The views were breathtaking with endless snow-capped peaks and blue glacial crevasses. The pilot was friendly, informative and ensured everyone had great visibility throughout the flight.

We landed on the glacier and the moment we stepped onto the snow surrounded by incredible alpine views felt surreal, truly once in a lifetime. The crisp mountain air and the silence up there were unforgettable.

Bloody Excellent!! Unfortunately the Tourism Industry is not happening atm and it's sad to see but on a plus side for us Kiwis it's a place were we have too ourselves and right on our back yard. #ExploreIt Part of this was to do a Helicopter to the Glacier, a bucket list must do! Also a surprise for everyone at the same time. I saw this company online as saw they had a fantastic deal. Booked for 5 of us, knowing this is all weather dependent, we were super lucky and had incredible weather. Booked the 30min flight where you get to see both the glaciers with a landing, and OMG absolute highlight and MUST DO yes it might be bit expensive BUT it's worth every penny!!!!! If you get the chance do it, as you won't regret it. This company was super friendly from the last at Reception to the ground guy Will a young lad who was chatty and friendly to our tall Pilot Benjamin excellent job and our photographer when landing on the snow, and even helping my Grandma out who's 87 and still went up and enjoyed every bit. What a memorable experience! We were given clear information prior to and during booking.Then 2 days prior had a reminder email, with another the day before.On arrival at Franz Josef, everyone was so friendly, were very clear with expectations, and clear safety instructions.There were plenty of staff to ensure and recheck safety.We were advised of the best outcome, and the worst due to possible inclement weather.However- we were all able to do the full twin glacier trip AND land on the glacier/ take photos, throw snowballs etc. Our pilot, Jay, took photos for us, and also extras which we could purchase in a momento folder. And he waited whilst the previous 2 helicopters took off from the snow, so we could experience arctic conditions and be snowblasted twice! Brilliant! ( cheeky!)
