Con: Parking can be hell. Everybody will walk in Eko market. Rich or poor, you go waka because not everywhere is accessible by driving. The noise from Idumota Okada riders is the worst I have experienced anywhere on this planet. They simply use their horn to harash pedestrians. You get pushed and you unavoidably push others especially at Tom Jones. Don't attempt to withdraw cash here as you might stay up to 30minutes or more on the long queue. The network for money transfer can be poor in many places within Idumota/Eko. Go with cash and keep your money safe. POS can help if you don't mind the charges and risk.
Don't go to Idumota market if you are in a haste. Take your time to check varieties and prices. If you rush, you might end up buying what you don't like
Don't plan to go to other places after visiting the market. It just doesn't work. The market has a way of wasting one's time. Instead, go to other places first and get to Idumota after especially if you have list of items.
Pro: You get virtually anything you want here at the cheapest price in Nigeria. Variety and quality are the reasons the effort is worthwhile Also, there are certain items you cannot get in other place except Idumota. Hence, you have no choice but to go.
Warning: even within market price varies. For example, few years ago, I was buying a yard of shirt material for N1200 at Tinubu for almost a year. On moving down to Tom Jones, the same fabric and material cost N800 as of then. I have lost N400 per yard for a year. I usually visit the market twice a week to get material with minimum of 50 yards per week. It SEEMS the deeper you go into the market ('inner part) the better the price.
Lastly, ask questions! This will help you. I have been going to the market weekly for 6 years and I still ask questions. It is will safe you time, unnecessary...
Read moreIdumota Market is a must-visit for anyone looking for a wide variety of products. From personal items to business supplies, childrenâs goods, adult essentials, and everything in between, they truly have it all. While they donât specialize in car parts or anything for mechanics, you can find everything else; lights, wires, clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, wristwatches, building materials, and so much more. If youâre looking for variety, this is the place to be.
One thing that really stands out about Idumota Market is the crowd, especially during peak periods like Christmas, Easter, or other festive seasons. The market gets extremely busy, and prices can skyrocket during these times. If youâre shopping around the holidays, be prepared to pay more than usual, and make sure you come with strong bargaining skills. Generally, though, prices are quite pocket-friendly, especially for shoes and womenâs items.
What I love about Idumota is that you can purchase in bulk from trusted distributors, so if youâre buying in large quantities, you donât have to worry about getting subpar products. However, be cautious, as there are both original and counterfeit items in the market. Itâs important to keep an eye out for fake goods to ensure youâre getting the quality youâre paying for.
The market is easily accessible from several points, including CMS, Leventis, or even the back entrance. Overall, Idumota Market is a great place for a wide range of shopping needs, but always be prepared for the crowds and festive...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place to get good deals on clothes, shoes and body accessories, I will definitely recommend Idumota.
I went with my friend who is a regular at the place of which he manged acrule just under 100k worth of clothes.
It is a nightmare to find anywhere to park, so I recommend taking a Uber or using the public transport.
Getting about could also be a nightmare as there are many shops and you need to be good at bargaining as well. Most of the best deals are usually hidden inside so you may need to spend sometime surveying to find them.
A few guys on the road may also offer to take you to store (brother, sister make i take you to madela wears.). It may be hard to fend them away but you may need to stick to your fund if you really do not want them around.
I actually used one of the guys who was very helpful and showed us the best places with rhe best deals. You may need to be careful with this as not all may be as helpful or be who they say they are.
It is also very important to travel as light as possible and keep your phone very well because there are a lot of pickpocketing that goes on in the market.
If you need cash, you can easily walk to marina to use any of the nearby banks so you di not need to carry as much cash. Many of them also accept transfer, so I advise going with as little cash...
