Beautiful Abbey Ruins. Norway does not have very many places of historical significance that are made of stone. So it is nice to see something from the past that was stone built.

Read moreHovedøya or Main Island is well worth going to. It is only a 10 minute ferry ride from the Akke Brygge public ferry wharf and the trip is part of the Oslo metro zone 1 which is handy if you already use a zone 1 monthly card.
There are public toilets on the island, plus this monastery, beaches, barbecues, trails and also great grassy flat fields for playing sports such as Frisbee and badminton.
The island has a really great vibe.
