Just returned from a stay at SkiStar Lodge and here are a few pros and cons:
Pros Great place to learn to ski as there are a lot of easy / green slopes. The staff were generally friendly and willing to help. The room was adequate and on par with other ski resorts. The lounge area in the resort is very nice and cosy - great place to chill out.
Cons The lift infrastructure is in need of a severe update. The lift passes are expensive (on par with Alp ski resorts) but the lifts in comparison are poor - many button lifts, some quite steep and a very outdated lift on a blue with ripped seats. The hotel is good, but lacks the basics to make it great IMO. You need to BOOK everything, or risk not getting into restaurants when you want or into the spa/pool. And book well in advance. We only managed to use the spa/pool once as it was full for the entire week!! You also need to pay for everything, e.g spa/pool, lockers etc - it begins to feel like a money making machine! The buffet is ok, but again BOOK or you won't get the sitting you want - you can't just walk in. Food is basic. And lastly, the lodge is quite isolated. There is nothing in close proximity, therefore, if you aren't skiing, your options are limited.
In a nutshell, great holiday but room for improvement at this hotel, particularly bearing in...
Read moreThis was a great place for beginners. We had never skied before but thankfully there was lots of advice on hand and we could rent skis too. Sadly there were no places left for the ski school (book in advance if you can!) but our teens turned out to be naturals and had a blast on their own in the family area.
The ski passes were very expensive since it was the start of the season and only two areas were open and we were given poor advice to start with. They have a centre which offers ‘tourist information’ and ‘guide’ services and as we had never skied before we were dependent on that advice. The guide knew we had never skied before but told us we would be fine on all the slopes that were open. At a cost of €350 who followed his advice. This was quite dangerous advice and thankfully they had a ski patrol who could rescue our stranded teens from the slope that wasn’t suitable for them at all🤦🏼♂️
Customer services were quite dismissive at first saying it was our choice but in the end did refund us some of the money recognising that for people who had never skied before only one area was really suitable and only a pass for that area was needed. So we give them credit for this and the excellent way they do maintain the area and...
Read moreExtremely disappointing experience at Trysil SkiStar.
Most of the slopes were closed during my visit, and the few that were open were in terrible condition—barely safe and clearly close to being shut down as well.
Despite this, SkiStar continues to charge full price for lift passes, without any kind of discount or compensation. This feels like a complete disregard for guests and their experience.
I was expecting to enjoy early ski and night ski when bought the ticket, these services were anounced. However, they suddenly decided to cancel this additional services. I expected much better, both in terms of service and transparency.
I decided reaching them out hoping for fair compensation, but their answer was just to justify that they are ensuring their quality standard, which is al least 10 slopes open.
Definitely not what I expected from a resort of this level.
I have been in the past when the weather condition was fine, and the experience was great. But they do not really asume that the weather this year does not allow for a normal ski experience at this time, and still try to keep making the...
