On our way back to Magallanes Residences from the car shop, Medy and I visited the Lon Wa Buddhist Temple along Cabaguio Avenue. We were impressed by the size of the temple. We were told that it is the biggest in Mindanao and is one of the largest in the country. The temple was established around 50 years ago. I used to see it as a child but I never ventured inside the compound.
One Buddhist monk and a (Buddhist) nun reside in the temple which holds religious services in Mandarin. It houses a main place of worship and I saw at least two side chapels. The temple also runs a Buddhist school and up to recent years was a Shao Lin Kung Fu center. It is an interesting and welcoming place to visit with the security guard serving as the tourist guide!
2014.06.25 About a month ago, we revisited the temple with Medy's friends who were in Davao for a tour. This time, the lady monk invited us to join her and the male monk for very hot tea and mandarin orange candies. She had been in Davao for a while so she spoke Visayan fluently. She said they had two services a week. She invited us to join them in next Sunday's service and to the vegetarian lunch thereafter (we were not able to do this because of conflicting schedules but we will attend their services in the near future). Read moreI studied here before not really inside this temple but in the extension of this building is a Chinese School and the ambiance of this school is very peaceful plus you get an accommodating teachers and staff once you visit here. For incoming grade 11 students that are still confuse of what school and track you want, this school here will welcome you especially if you came from a public school. For Parents: please include this in your list if you want your child to learn chinese language as early as now even for kindergarten pupils🥰
