I grew up nearby and went to school there but I've never really gone inside until recently. I was pleasantly surprised that they had artwork by Juan Luna, Amorsolo, Manansala, Hernando Ocampo, Hidalgo, Edades, Guillermo Tolentino—some of the best Filipino artists who ever existed, inside such a small museum in a simple building. They also have an ill-gotten wealth exhibit, which I think is really cool. I've been to a few major museums in other parts of the world and my personal experience in visiting the Vargas museum is just as amazing, despite the limited collection.

Entrance fees are cheap and the staff are nice. Their best and friendliest employee is this one in the picture, even if she looked like she just woke up. I did ask for her name but I forgot. She greeted us at the entrance and escorted us to reception. I wonder if she's had...

The Jorge B. Vargas Museum is one of the 9 museums in the University of the Philippines Diliman campus. Museum has galleries on 3 floors. Ground floor is dedicated for temporary exhibitions. First floor is home to the collections of art, books, memorabilia of Jorge B. Vargas who donated his holdings to UP in 1978 (among them a great number of paintings of Amorsolo). On the second floor, the museum presents the art works sequestered by the PCGG from a trove of pieces traced to the family of former President Ferdinand Marcos. Specially interesting is the collection of orthodox icons. The Museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. Entrance fee is 30 PHP (20 PHP for students).
