As one of the first large German railway viaducts, the 35 m high Neisse Viaduct with its 30 round arches and a length of 475 metres swings far over from Obermühlenberg. It is the rail route from Görlitz to Poland. The giant body of reddish granite is crowned by a railing of white sandstone, giving the massive and heavy arched structure an extremely pleasant, graceful lightness. The granite was quarried from the Limasberg (Liebsteiner Berg, Königshainer Berge near Görlitz), driven in by horse-drawn carts and the blocks hewn on the bank according to templates. The work took three years, from July 1844 to August 1847. Commissioned by the Lower Silesian-Mark Railway Company and built by master mason Gustav Kießler, the building cost a total of 640,668 Taler, 266 Silbergroschen and 3 Pfennige in the end. The Second World War also left its mark on the building. In the days before 8 May 1945, members of the Waffen SS blew out the highest arches of the viaduct. Due to reparations, the electrification was dismantled. Around 1950, Polish construction workers worked on repairing the blast damage and in 1957 the first cross-border train crossed...

Niedawno odrestaurowany z pietyzmem i dbałością o szczegóły. Obiekt...
