Jewish Museum of Belmonte — Attraction in Belmonte

A small museum with few exhibits. Not much translated into English so that was a problem, but I was hoping for more stories about the Secret Jews of Belmonte, how they lived, managed to continue practicing their lifestyle based on their religion, evaded questioning etc. We read all we could and looked at everything including the audio visual film show in Portuguese, but couldn't make the visit last longer than half an hour. To be honest it was boring. Also there is bright strip lighting that zigzags across the floor, walls and ceiling and it affects your eyes and can make you unsteady on your feet, not pleasant. Not worth the €4 entry cost or time. Not child orientated either. You can buy a combined museums and castle entry ticket that lasts 3 days and gets you into all the museums in Belmonte which...

Visitei o Museu Judaico de Belmonte e fiquei muito satisfeita com a experiência. A visita pode ser feita em pouco tempo, mas é surpreendentemente enriquecedora e agradável. O acervo está muito bem distribuído ao longo do espaço, e a narrativa construída pelo museu permite compreender, de forma clara e envolvente, a história da comunidade judaica local. Um lugar pequeno, mas com um grande valor histórico. O museu fica no segundo piso, mas é totalmente acessível.
