I have mix feelings about my visit to Mudas. In one hand the building is very enjoyable, with beautiful views of the ocean and Calheta beach, the interior spaces are are well designed and could accommodate great exhibitions. My disappointment were the exhibitions and art displays. I did not enjoy them, except for few pieces, that to me were worth to look at them. But must of the building is under used. I trust the curator of Mudas can bring together pieces from local talented artist, which would also bring more visitors and revenue. I have seen more interesting displays in shops and public places around the island for free. And lastly, would be enough to share your nationality at the ticket purchase desk only? Why do they have to ask this same question every time you enter another section of the building? It did not makes...
Read moreModern building displaying modern art, with some interesting paintings, photos and sculpture. Not to everyone's taste - I never did get the hang of monochrome canvasses with random lines scratched into the surface - but no doubt in means something to the artist! It's a stark building in grey volcanic stone, commanding great views of Calheta below. But the good parts are that it's inexpensive (2euro, 1euro for seniors if you ask). There is an underground car park, a cafe/restaurant, and well designed interior spaces to display the art. Some installation art, some photographic, some sculptures, and a few pieces reminiscent of Picasso. So worth a visit for the architecture, views and photos, a pause for a leisurely coffee, and some of the exhibits displayed in the air conditioned interior with a convenient lift...
Read moreThe mainly Portuguese contemporary art collection is ok. If your are visiting bringing cash with you as the Museum does not accept cards, nor has an ATM machine. It is also advisable to bring some coins to pay the car park. It was really shameful that the museum's gift shop was not opened on a Saturday. As for the restaurant the quality is not good, despite the fact that the service is nice. As for the men's toilet, flushing was not working, no light and the other stall was out of service. I would certainly expect more of such appraised museum. The view is...
