Praia do Guincho is a beautiful beach located on the west coast of Portugal, just a few kilometers away from the town of Cascais. It is known as one of the best spots for water sports in Europe, particularly for surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling.

Here's some spot info for each activity:

Surfing: The waves at Praia do Guincho are powerful and consistent, with an average height of 1-2 meters (3-6 feet). The best conditions for surfing are during the winter months (December to February), but it can also be surfed year-round. The beach is exposed to the Atlantic, so it can be quite windy and choppy, but it also means there are usually waves. There are several surf schools and rental shops in the area that offer lessons and equipment.

Kitesurfing: The wind at Praia do Guincho is generally strong and consistent, with an average speed of 15-25 knots. The beach has a large, open area with plenty of space for kitesurfing. The water can be choppy, but there are also some flat sections. There are several kitesurfing schools and rental shops in the area that offer lessons and equipment.

Windsurfing: The wind at Praia do Guincho is strong and consistent, with an average speed of 15-25 knots. The waves can be quite big and powerful, making it a challenging spot for windsurfing. There are several windsurfing schools and rental shops in the area that offer lessons and equipment.

Wingfoiling: Praia do Guincho is a great spot for wingfoiling, with plenty of space and consistent wind. The water can be choppy, but there are also some flat sections. There are several wingfoiling schools and rental shops in the area that offer lessons and equipment.

Facilities and Parking: There are several restaurants, cafes, and bars near the beach, as well as a few hotels and guesthouses. There are also several public restrooms and showers available. Parking can be a bit challenging during peak season, but there are several parking areas available within walking distance...

A big favourite of ours. Most people are near the shore line and there is a nice friendly atmosphere. Great for surfers, kite surfers and body boarders. Move further back away from the people and it is very quiet and peaceful. Scenery is spectacular. PARKING - On the southside you have 2 Euro a day car parks. Northside has an excellent car park which costs 6 euros a day. We usually use the northside carpark at weekends as it gets packed out in the whole area. During the week if we cannot find a free parking spot we use the 2 euros car park on the southside. You can find free parking at weekends if you arrive by 10.30 am (in summer obviously), but you may have to walk up to 1 km depending on where you finally park. Pay the carpark, it's much less hassle and no stress. Food and drink - Northside has a couple of really cool bars with food. Weather - Great in Summer. Can get very windy so check online before setting off. We take a windbreaker, and it makes a big difference.

SWIMMING - There are rip tides. Be very careful. Kids need to be closely watched by parents. Know the tides as the outgoing tide can be especially dangerous to inexperienced people. The lifeguards will quickly let you know if your behaviour is appropriate for...

Praia do Guincho, located on the western coast of Portugal, is a stunning beach renowned for its vast expanse of white sand and breathtaking ocean views. The beach is particularly famous for its strong, consistent winds, making it a popular destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts. While the beach offers a picturesque setting, swimming is not recommended due to the powerful waves that can be extremely dangerous. It's best to admire the ocean from a safe distance or enjoy other activities like beachcombing or sunbathing. The strong winds can also make it quite chilly, so be sure to bring a sweater or jacket. Overall, Praia do Guincho is a must-visit for those seeking a beautiful and unique beach experience. If you're not interested in water sports, you'll still appreciate the stunning scenery and the opportunity to relax in a peaceful, natural environment.
