Zugang: Am besten Richtung Cascade Wellness-Zentrum gehen.

Access: Walk in the direction of Cascade Wellness Centre. Then follow the road along its vast grounds to the end and take the concrete footpath to the right. At the fork, turn right onto the wooden walkway and immediately after a large pine tree with a knee-shaped trunk under which a very young fig tree grows (behind it, to the left of the path, a fenced area begins), slip through the wooden railing of the path and follow the path to the right, descending the sentry by about 180 steps. It is worth it. The beach is huge at low tide and shrinks at high tide. Directly at the overhanging, partly crumbly rocks, the author personally has an insecure feeling. There are also masses of boulders from previous rockfalls in different places, also in the surf zone.

It is a non official clothing optional beach. But you will usually find a huge "textile fraction", too. It is wonderful to be able to play Frisbee on a large beach. One shortcoming is that the sand is too fine for my senses. You should have an empty bottle of mineral water with you, which you can fill with sea water to wash the sand off your feet before going home. Good swimmers can reach the beach Praia do Barranco do Martinho by swimming about 400 m towards the lighthouse. That one usually also is visited by nudists. But the author claims the direct descent from the cliffs to this beach too dangerous. He recommends to swim with a buoy...

Nice cliff beach that’s less crowded than the others. Seems like it’s become more crowded though over time. It is a “nudist” beach but nearly everyone kept their suits on—probably because there were some creepy old dudes there on multiple days that kinda ruin things. For instance, a lady would take her top off and some creepy dude would move to the rocks behind her and start touching himself. It was bizarre. He started to do it behind me and my GF but we just kinda stared at him like WTF? and he went away. Couldn’t believe it would happen on a beach here. On another day, a lady noticed it was happening and told the guy to f* off. He then left only to peer down on the beach from the top of the cliff. It’s a nice beach though when there’s no...

I walk the cliff-top path at least once a week throughout the year. Almost every time I'm there I encounter phone-huggers looking at Google maps (or equivalent) trying to find a way down to Canavial. They try all over the place, although there is ONLY ONE route down from the cliff-top.Repeat - there is ONLY ONE WAY DOWN. All the human traffic accelerates the erosion of the cliffs, sending even more rocks down onto what remains of the beach! At high tide the beach is completely covered by the sea, but that doesn't stop the phone-huggers from trying to find this highly-rated beach. I fear that human action will bring an untimely end...

It’s a nice beach though when there’s no weirdos. 🤷‍♂️

Well worth the climb!!! It wasn’t too bad, never so steep or narrow that I was worried about losing footing but steep enough that I slowed way down and took my time. A few places you could slide for sure. We did it with a six month old and a 3 year old but it’s probably not for everyone especially if you’re carrying a stroller etc. The beach itself is gorgeous. Dramatic, shallow, big waves but no kelp. Not much shade so bring an umbrella. Took us 15-18 minutes from the lighthouse. Go off the boardwalk where there’s a piece missing. Tried to provide some photos of the steeper parts where it gets sandy/slippery. We were so glad we made the trek.

HOW TO REACH THE BEACH: Put the beach on google maps in order to get you to a parking lot (I attach photos). There is a small pedestrian path to follow but at a certain point you have to climb over the fence and continue on the dirt road (I marked the pedestrian path in RED on the map, the YELLOW POINT where you have to climb over and in BLUE the dirt path). As soon as you find some stairs you have to follow them in order to get to the beach. The stairs are located near a warning sign. It is not very difficult to get to the beach but you absolutely have to use shoes or sandals, no flip flops or Birkenstock because it slips easily and the path is very steep and dangerous.
