The remains of the Royal castle are from 16th century, although the castle was built on the place of the old Princely castle from 15th century. There's even data that there were fortified positions at this place from the 14th century. The 16th century Royal castle was built after Prince Petru Cercel's visit to the French king's castle, and deciding that the old castle was not according to his times. Thus, he ordered the construction of a new Princely residence of "fairly large size and good architecture". This castle is much more connected to the famous Vlad Tepes(the impaler), then castle Bran, which although a beautiful castle itself with a rich history, has no connection with the famous prince.

So much wasted potential... The historical site is simply amazing with an impressive historical background. The way it’s presented to the public is extremely basic with no spice whatsoever. The modern era touches are ruining the experience. Way too much plastic everywhere. The cellars are void of anything although their history is both rich and sad. I really hope local authorities try and restore this extraordinary site to its full potential.

When we visited, the tower was undergoing repairs, so it wasn't accessible. But the rest of the site is impressive, even more than other 'famous' landmarks (e.g. the kitschy Bran Castle). Too bad there is no real intention to maximize the site's potential. A couple of dioramas, reconstructing the executioner's room would have gone a long way. I give 4 stars to the historical accomplishments and its former glory, not its current status.

Really cool restauration work being done there, also a good art exhibition focusing on how the palace looked and how it undergone multiple periods of restauration work, a nice place to go for a walk and enjoy nature plus history, the platforms on which you can walk are really cool and it is definitely worth getting lost in the old pallace, I feel sad I was unable to get the view from the tower but there is still time.

There's nothing left of the Royal Court but a few walls in shambles. What I enjoyed about it was to see that it's getting funded for a full rebuild of how it once was. The ticket was only 12 lei and it includes the Royal Court ruins, the Chindia Tower and the Printing Museum. You can easily spend up to one hour here just by walking, reading and visiting them all, which for 12 lei makes it pretty good.

The grounds are nice, and the tower at the end has a good view of the city. The main part of the court is largely in ruins, and not as impressive as the accompanying buildings, especially the larger of the two churches, as well as the tower. But the grounds are worth a visit, if you're into historical places.
