Hotel Nova — Hotel in Târgoviște

The hotel is about 1 hour's drive from Bucharest OTP airport but is rather located off a side street and difficult to find using satnav - Google sent us to a Lidl car park instead. |The hotel is actually located close to central Parcul Mitropiliei where there are some decent restaurants (seek out the Casa Veche) and it appears a safe area of town.|The hotel has a good car park and initial impressions are good. The room was really large and comfortable: the hotel has clearly been significantly upgraded recently (now called the Nova Luxury, rather than just the plain, old Nova!) so older reviews do not necessarily reflect the changes and all the furnishings were clean and new. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning adequate, although a bit noisy.|The bathroom was large with good quality towels and toiletries. Our room had a big wet-room shower which frankly swamped the whole floor, but there was lots of hot water.|Breakfast was a bit limited and the hot food only tepid, but it was ok.|If you are arriving in Bucharest late afternoon and are on your way to Transylvania via Brasov, then the Hotel Nova Luxury is a good staging post. I do not recommend it. My experience with them was that the bathroom door would not close, I guess the bathroom it once was flooded and the door expanded; The door to the shower was leaking, so water was splashing everywhere; For breakfast included, there was little choice, and even so the food was not refilled as it was consumed. We kindly asked someone in the kitchen and they just rolled their eyes without answering. After a while someone came to refill a few plates and the milk. For coffee there were no proper cups to use; We saw a big jar of chocolate which was just lying on the floor in the eating room. I came here for a company retreat. I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I felt my experience was good because my expectations were very low, but the rooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable. |I didn’t like the first set of towels we received (they were rough) but after I changed them they were alright. It does have a “people used to smoke in the rooms” feel. There is an ever so present smoking scent. The food is very Romanian but delicious and they accommodated our schedule for eating program. |The hotel is downtown so its really easy to find everything one might need....
