One of the interesting things to see when visiting the Peter Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg is the Ioannovsky Bridge which links the fortress with Petrograd side of the city.

This is considered St. Petersburg first bridge. Originally a floating bridge when constructed in 1703 and reconstructed numerous times over the centuries. The present structure was put up in 1953. There are nice cast iron railings which line this walking bridge which leads way to the fortress.

John the Baptist Bridge is one of the symbols of St. Petersburg. It’s nice that Peter and Paul Day comes after St. John’s Day in the Orthodox Christian church tradition. The bridge is decorated with peculiar ornaments belonging to St. John the Baptist. For example, it is made of aspen boards, and the lanterns have arrows. The view is fantastic and historical.
