Lyadskoy Sad — Attraction in Kazan

The exact prehistory of the name "Lyady Garden" is connected with the historical toponym of the area "Lyady". This word, recorded in Kazan scribe books as early as 1646, denoted in Old Russian language a damp, low-lying, often swampy territory, unsuitable for arable land ("Lyada"). By the XVIII century Lyadskaya sloboda was formed here - an area of residence of retired soldiers and small servants, which is officially recorded in documents, including the "Plan of the provincial city of Kazan" 1817. Major-General A.N. Letskaya built his estate with a garden in this already existing Lyadskaya Sloboda only in 1824-1825. Thus, the garden received the name "Lyadsky" exclusively by its location (in Lyadskaya Sloboda, on the lands of historical "Lyads"), and not by the surname of the owner. The connection of the name with the surname of Letsky is a later and erroneous folk etymology due to the consonance, which is confirmed by the studies of Kazan historians (like K.F. Amirov) and archival sources. The garden was named after the locality, not the person.

The modern look of the square was formed after the reconstruction in the 2000s, when a monument to G.R. Кто рядом живет, здесь отличное время погулять)) как хорошо, что в центре есть такие маленькие парки! Здесь есть и хвойные и лиственные дереья. А какая красивая рябина растет))) чудесный фонтан. Есть детская площадка, а то и две! Еще бв что нибудт придумать и вообще станет популярным местом. Конечно чтобы погулять сюла нет смысла ехать. Но работающие в центре и живущим здесь, хоть прекраснное место времяпровождения. Много пожилих тут занимаются скандинавской ходьбой. Школы проводят свои кросс пробежки.
