I second what other reviewers have said. A great place, part of the old, real Kigali. Not at all like the tourist hotels.
We ate at the Visit Rwanda. I tried a traditional Rwandan meal that was comprised of potato, green bananas (both were boiled) and beans in a sauce. It was rather bland, though the beans had some flavour and there was hot sauce on the side.
I found the waiter way more professional than the ones we have had downtown. I wonder if that is because this area is older, the waiters have been there for years and in the newer places, the staff are also newer and less experienced.
There are dozens of restaurants, but none serve alcohol. You will be accosted by pitchmen who are trying to convince you to go to a particular restaurant. I was with Rwandan friends, and they chose the place. Maybe if you are looking for a particular type of food, these guys could help...

They have lots and lots of options in terms of cuisines and restaurants. But not all could be providing good tasty food. Something that irritated me and my friend was the shopkeepers following us around pressing us to go to their restaurant. I suggest someone who is new to do proper research on which shop to visit. Otherwise the shopkeepers are going to swarm and one will end up more confused. Also, enquire food prices prior to ordering and make sure they accept card payment if you are planning to...
