Al Ula is a wealth of natural wonders. It has dramatic and beautiful rock formations and sand-swept dunes to behold. The archaeological ruins trace the lives of the ancient cultures who built cities here. Winter at Tantora, running from 19th December 2019 to 7th March 2020, is a festival with music, art and culture. The hot air balloon ride is an attraction in the Winter in Tantora festival.

Al Ula is a journey through a living museum of preserved tombs, sandstone outcrops, historic dwellings and monuments, both natural and human-made, that hold 200,000 years of largely unexplored human history.

AlUla is home to a series of fascinating historical and archaeological sites such as Ancient Dadan, the capital of the Dadan and Lihyan Kingdoms.

AlUla was one of them and became a vital crossroads along the famous incense-trading routes running from southern Arabia north into Egypt and beyond. With oases dotting the area, it offered a much-needed respite for weary travellers, becoming a popular place to rest, commune and recharge.

AlUla was also capital of the ancient kingdoms of Dadan and Lihyan, which controlled the caravan trade.

AlUla’s Top Sites

  1. Hegra, Al-Hijr (Modern Mada’in Salih)
  2. Elephant Rock (Jabal Al-Fil)
  3. Jabal ‘Ikmah
  4. Dadan (Modern Al-Khuraybah)
  5. Old Town Of Alula (Al-Dirah)
  6. Hijaz Railway
  7. Al-Aqra’a And...

A Stunning Blend of History and Nature

My visit to Al Ula was an unforgettable experience filled with history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. The Old Town was a highlight, with its well-preserved mudbrick houses, narrow alleys, and traditional marketplace. Walking through the ancient streets, I felt transported back in time, surrounded by the rich heritage of this historic town. There were so many fascinating things to see, from old homes to artefacts that tell the stories of the past.

Beyond the Old Town, Al Ula’s natural wonders were equally mesmerizing. Elephant Rock was a sight to behold—a massive rock formation shaped by nature over thousands of years. Standing before it at sunset was truly magical, as the golden light enhanced its beauty.

Exploring the ruins scattered throughout Al Ula added another layer to the experience. The remnants of ancient civilizations gave a deep sense of history, making me appreciate the significance of this remarkable region.

Al Ula is a place where history and nature come together in the most stunning way. Whether wandering through centuries-old streets or marvelling at geological wonders, every moment was captivating. It’s a must-visit destination for history lovers, adventurers, and anyone seeking a unique and enriching...

Nice Tantura is considered an important sundial on which the people of the region depend; the seasons of the year and the seasons of the year, especially the winter season, are the lowest and the longest night of the year. Tantura rises on the roofs of one of the buildings in the center of the ancient town of Ola as an authentic part of the building, as the people of the city relied on them hundreds of years ago to know the time during the day. Tantoura has gained its importance as a point where the people of the town meet; to celebrate the planting season and the winter season, which is once again the activity in the fields, and so the event became an annual tradition, bringing the people of the city to celebrate their return to their fields and a chance to cheer and...

Not as good as Petra in regards to the tombs but the surrounding area is very beautiful, more so than Petra. They do not have the canyons to walk through. Worth the visit but you will spend over a third of your time in a bus. You are not able to wander around like in Petra. Everyone very nice and most speak English.
