For tourists, check the ground floor for items like vanilla essence, coconut oil and if you can carry back home some spices like cinnamon, curry, nutmeg, etc.. other than that the ground floor is just for watching fish and fruit goods. If you go to the upper floor you can browse through the souvenir shops, where you can find items like refrigerator magnets, swimwear cover ups, bags, flip flops ( mostly hand-made) but check all the shops prices before you start buying as most of them are very expensive while you can bargain with them and get the same item with much less price in the next shop, a scarf can cost 100 rupees while a bag can cost around 250 rupees, magnets between 50 and 75 rupees. There's an indian temple nearby that you can visit for 5 minutes. In general it's a nice place to visit but dont plan to spend the whole day there, it can be checked out in only 1-2 hours with the souvenirs shopping. I dont recommend...
Read moreThe Selwyn Market is a large market located at the centre of Victoria, the capital of Seychelles. The market, built in 1840, is the main market in the whole of Seychelles. This market almost serves as a landmark and is the best place to buy fresh items.

We found the souvenirs here (mostly!) cheaper than anywhere else in the Seychelles 🇸🇨, so in that manner I recommend to visit the shops here. At the end of the corridor in the second floor (opposite end of the cafe), I found a shop that handprints lots of pretty & not too touristy Seychelles themed souvenirs (scarfs, pouches, clothes etc) that actually could be wearable in the normal daily life outside of the Seychelles. Lovely staff and shop! If you are very sensitive to smells, the market isn’t a good place to visit. Especially the fish smell is very,...
