There was no proper barricade while the workers was still working when I went to the park. I walked into the wet cement floor that was up to my knee and up to my elbows when I tried to break the fall. It was a horrifying shock and sight to see myself trapped and covered in thick cement. I was stunned as my daughter pulled me up from the wet cement floor. I called for the workers to bring me water to wash the wet cement from me. I think they sccop water from the pond nearby. I felt dirty and disgusted as I regained from the shock. I asked my daughter to take pictures as we intend to file a complain to the relevant authorities. We called the park and a Lady Ms Yeow asked me to email and sent in the pictures. She claimed that the workers had barricade the place for safety but someone had tampered with it and pushed the barricade aside. However when I went to the park between 5 to 6pm, the workers was still on duty. There was no barricade or warning signs at all. The workers only pushed back the barricade in place after I had taken some pictures and asked them to call for their Supervisor. It was not my carelessness that I fell. There was disregard for public safety from the people involved. I was in discomfort on my knees wrist and elbow for a few days and had to stayed calm to bring my blood pressure down as it had shot up to 156 after the fall when I reached home. It had been a very bad experience and I will never go into Kent...
ย ย ย Read moreI think park ratings are what you are looking for in a park. In my case, I want somewhere that's green and not too hot, easy to park and accessible to my elderly mum.
Kent Ridge park is an old park and one that I used to go to a long time ago. Read about it again recently and decided to give it a go. It's easy to get there if you drive but a bit inaccessible otherwise, unless you're doing long walks. There are two levels. The upper one has a larger car park with some new benches and what seems to be new lookout areas. Nice high views but not really spectacular scenery, You see the Kent Ridge area and the port if you look towards the sea. It's also hotter up at the top car park area.
So with my mum, we were down at the lower car park. I had hoped to go to one of the two ponds that is reachable from the lower car park but didn't realize that it sloped down so much. No problem going downhill, but my mum wouldn't have been able to manage the uphill climb back to the carpark.
So we spent it on level ground, enjoyed the greenery and the little walk paths. Maybe a bit boring but we were quite content walking around. We'll...
ย ย ย Read moreVery steep climb from the main road to the park entrance if you're going up by bike or walking. The hike alone is a great workout. Once there, it's a wide green area on top of a hill with a few sections. The park is quite old-worldly, with very tall connifers and cement pagoda-type sitting strutures, mixed with large, mature canopy-style trees. It's beautiful - and even on a humid day there will be quite enough shade. Branching off within the park are a canopy plank bridge brings you into the Hort Park, and on the other side is some kind of entrance into the forest brush that leads somehow to an old condo on the other side. I think mostly university staff and students use this park regularly, it is so far off from any othe residential area, and such a hilly climb to get to. If you can get here (preferrably just come up by car, there is car park at the entrance), it is worth an...
