I recently had the pleasure of walking the Railway Corridor from Albert Park to Henderson Road, covering a distance of around 10 kilometres. The natural beauty of the surroundings and the tranquillity of the walk were truly delightful. However, I would like to mention some areas where I believe there is room for improvement in the details of the pathway.
Pathway Width and Safety Concerns: While appreciating the shared nature of the footpath/bicycle path, I found the pathway somewhat narrow. Although cyclists generally adhere to the speed limit of 10 kph, I frequently found myself looking out for bicycles and adjusting my path to accommodate them. While it is commendable that cyclists follow the rules, the narrowness of the pathway makes the overall experience more stressful for pedestrians like me. I believe widening the pathway could enhance safety and comfort for both pedestrians and cyclists.
2.Lack of Rest Areas: Another observation I made during my walk was the scarcity of resting places. Over the entire 10-kilometer stretch, I encountered only one bench or rest area. While I understand the desire to maintain the natural aesthetics of the corridor, increasing the number of resting spots could greatly improve the overall experience for visitors. These areas would not only provide a place to rest but also encourage people to spend more time appreciating the beauty of the surroundings.
I understand the efforts put into maintaining the well-intentioned and beautiful nature of the Railway Corridor, but I believe these suggestions could contribute to enhancing the experience for both pedestrians and cyclists. I appreciate the work of the Land Transport Authority in continuously improving our public spaces and would be grateful if these considerations could be taken into account.
Update: It seems LTA had started to upgrade the Railway corridor with installation of some...
Read moreThe Rail Corridor has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Singapore, especially for cycling with my mountain bike. Stretching from near our place all the way to Buona Vista, Bukit Timah, and beyond, it offers the perfect blend of nature, heritage, and a refreshing break from the usual city roads.
The trail is mostly flat, making it ideal for casual rides, but there are also sections where you can pick up some speed or enjoy a bit of off-road action. What makes it even more special are the lush surroundings, charming old railway bridges, and the peaceful vibe that greets you throughout the ride.
Aside from cycling, my wife and I also love coming here for our jogs. The long stretch gives us plenty of space for a solid workout or just a relaxing walk together. Whether you’re on two wheels or on foot, the Rail Corridor truly offers something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors.
Highly recommended for those looking for scenic views, a bit of history, and a great way to...
