What a Beautiful Amazing Place to Visit💝 The staff are Very Friendly and Helpful. There are Picnic Areas and playgrounds for the children all surrounding by the most beautiful foliage and scenery. You can spend the entire day ther and still not have enough time to take it all in. The peacocks walk around between you as you visit the Lions,Bengal Tiger,Jaguar,Warthogs,Monkeys,Baboons,Porcupines,Ducks,Fishes,Bear,Turtles and Crocodiles....New Animals will also be arriving soon and they are busy renovating and upgrading the facilities. There is a Kiosk to buy snacks or you can bring your own to eat at the picnic tables. They host childrens parties with great play areas for the kids as well as scholar groups for schools. Once entrance fees are paid, all facilities are free inside. Remember the entrance fee is to help to care for the animals and is not a huge amount. This is a Phenomenal Gem in the CBD of East London. It is the oldest Zoo ins South Africa and the only Zoo in CBD in South Africa. Whenever you get a chance or are driving through East London,Be Sure to make a stop at the Zoo,You Will Not be Disappointed. Thank You Soo Much,We had a...

EL Zoo South Africa is situated in a large lush green park however, badly maintained. Walkways full of leaves and weeds, pond areas the water green with a smell. Some buildings and structures dilapidated and an eye sore. In my childhood there was a small electric train for kids rides, now its standing there in ruins. Many enclosures empty. We could see pieces of fruit in some cages but, the drinking water dirty, not cleaned for weeks. The kiosk was closed at picnic areas there was garden benches but, grass very long. My heart is very sore for the few animals still there. Years ago this was a beautiful area for families to take their kids or just to spend time outdoors. PLEASE Buffalo City Municipality, Schools, Non-Profit organizations, SPCA do something take this challenge on for 2024 and restore this area for the well being of the animals OR rather relocate the animals and...

A lot of things can be improved. First of all there are no clear directions of where is the reception, entrance or parking. Secondly the parking is very limited and there are no lines of where to park, you just park where you want and I think it contributes to the parking problem.

I'm not sure if there suppose to be a guide on zoo, maybe it's because it was Saturday hence the was no guide, but it will really help to have guides.

On a positive side it was great to see Tigers, and white Lion. I heard that there are bears also but I didn't see them because there's no clear indication of where are they.

I like the fact that they open till 17:00 on Saturdays. It's a great place to bring your kids, they can play and ride the small train the whole...

Most animal enclosures are overgrown with weeds and bushes, the water is disgusting. You can hardly find your way to the wolves, and when you do get there they can hardly wait to see you. The one was terrified but the other one was dying for attention. The small shop is useless too and can be closed down too. The animals need to be removed to another place. One Vervet monkey has a broken finger that no one has ever noticed or tried to fix. The male lion can hardly walk, the Jaguar looks like he's ready to kill, in 3 years time his enclosure is still not suitable for him! No man show some compassion for the animals!

The location is great because is not far from town. Its reachable even if you dont have personal transport. There's peacock, wild pigs, bears, jackals, white Lions, tiger, jaguar, chimpanzee, different breeds of monkeys, birds, snakes, crocodile, turtles, impala/inyala and more small animals i dont even know by name just know them from Nat geo wild. There's alot to see there. It was great. You pay at the reception +/- R65 adult and discount on kids. I almost didn't go when i read reviews there'snt alot to see. But i tell you there's alot, just ask where to go. Staff is friendly
