Gonubie Main Beach — Attraction in Eastern Cape

We recently stayed in a cozy apartment just a short 10-minute walk from this beautiful beach, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. The walk to the beach itself was delightful, with lovely mosaic garden art along the way, setting a peaceful tone for the day. Once we arrived at the beach, we were amazed by its beauty. It’s a large, clean beach with warm, inviting water, and the shallow areas make it perfect for children to safely play and explore. We also loved collecting little shells scattered along the shore.

A standout feature is the well-maintained boardwalk that runs between two parking lots, offering easy access to the beach with convenient steps leading down at various points. There’s also a tidal pool, which provides yet another option for fun. We found the river mouth equally appealing – the gentle current is perfect for swimming, and there are even rocks with small pools to explore, making it an adventure for everyone.

Safety is a top priority here, with vigilant lifeguards on duty throughout the day, giving us peace of mind as we enjoyed the sun and surf. To top it off, there are several great restaurants nearby, including an excellent pancake shop just a few minutes away. Loved everything about this beach...it has it all! 👌🏻 Beautiful big clean beach with warm water and lots of shallow water for kids to play. Plenty of little shells on the beach. A lovely well-kept boardwalk between 2 parking's with steps down to the beach along the way. A tidal pool adds to the variety of things to do. Also a river mouth, so can swim in the river and even paddle with boats if desired. Also rocks with small pools to explore on the other side of the one carpark. Was a really great beach, with really nice swimming area, great and friendly lifeguards, and a nice open area to walk along the side of the river. But after that sewage spill... The beach has been closed for so long now after that, with it being really unhealthy and dangerous to go there... It's really bad and shocking how little the municipality cares about environmental safety... The musselcracker that's situated there is sitting in a really nice and strategic place, and they have really great food, especially...
