I really like this place. I frequent this place very often. The trails range from moderate to slightly difficult. The river runs along most of the trails and I definitely enjoy the boulder hopping on the river a lot. The trails are moderate in distance with one being very long (about 2.5km one way) and a very short one. Do prepare to get your feet wet as in the summer the river flows not a lot where you won't be able to cross but just enough that it's nigh impossible to cross without stepping in the water. However I must voice my discontent at how the park managers have neglected to clean the river after the heavy rains and flood we had the year before. Most of it is gone but along some parts, bits of rubbish that was washed onto the river banks still remain. If not for this, I would've given Palmiet 5 stars.
Bonus: the toilets are really clean and private. Not forgetting the big thatch roof structure which is great for...
Read moreOver view of the place . There is a decent parking area . There is no security . There is a school of some sort next to the reserve. At the entrance there is a map of all the hikes . In total there is about 6 hikes. Ranging from 0.5 km to about 4km . There is no entrance fee . To enter there is just a gate to open. There is a small boma in the front . Next to the boma there is a pond with fish . And just below the boma there a small stream. The bathrooms are abit dilapidated. The hikes are marked all along the way but there is room for improvement. The longest hike goes parallel to the river and there are houses on the other side of the river. There is cell phone reception along the hike. So overall it need improvement. And just a suggestion that it is much safer to go...
Read moreThe place is nice but there is NO SECURITY. Please BE CAREFUL. We had a scary experience as we came into the parking lot and were followed in by another car. As we took out our picnic gear about 6 suspicious men came out of that car and we immediately were on alert, sensing danger. They pretend to be preparing to go inside but kept loitering around seemingly positioning themselves to surround our vehicle. Luckily another car came in at that time, but they also saw the group of men and decided to make a u-turn and leave. We used that distraction to quickly returned our picnic gear and jumped back into the car and we immediately left.
Remember you are on your own in a dense bush...unfortunately in this climate of crime, that is the last place...
