At the heightened time of political unrests, resistance and revolt against the fascist apartheid regime in South Africa, churches used to be meeting places for the anti apartheid activism. People would be mobilised to resist apartheid. The gatherings would be initiated by either students or civil or political organisations... Regina Mondi in SOWETO was one such church. Not that the church was playing a role of influencing people, but church halls were use for venue... Roma in Small Farms Evaton was also rendezvous for political movements... Like Morris Isaacson High School, where the June 16, 1976 student uprising started... Church ministers, like Archbishop Desmond Tutu, would be seen in between the police and the revolting crowds trying to plead with the police not to use excessive force when dispersing the gathering crowds. In those scenes then, violence would erupt, the police would be seen hitting people with sjamboks. People getting injured, apprehended and detained without trial by police...
