While the pedestrian gate is locked and the road gate is closed (with a "no entrance" sign), you can walk through the latter to enter. The badkloof trail was badly damaged by the winter flooding so we were advised to follow the bloupunt trail and then we came back along the congmanskloof trail, a nice leisurely 2 hour round trip. The first section follows the river bed and requires some scrambling etc and a steep climb to the ridge to return. We understand they're hoping to reopen the badkloof soon. Read moreWe started at Avalon Springs but they said to follow the path and it takes you up to the Cave... its doesn't. You go through the parking lot, turn left and go through the large silver gates (sign says Moutain Reserve). Follow the path till you get to the river where you see on your right, there are stones going across the river like a path (10m after the blue pipes). There's a large stone with a black arrow pointing the way across the river. On the other side, there's a sign with an arrow leading the way up the mountain to the stairs.
