You will not find a more diverse market in South Africa! Each stall has a unique feel to it.
From the vendor selling medicinal herbs to the bathsalt lady, the war medals and vintage coins, the beautiful tea sets, and silverware to the skincare and sunscreen stall, they have what you need.
The variety of stalls also adds value by often having that odd lid of a pot you're missing or that wrench that no one else has.
If you happen to need a snack or beverage, not too worry, there are stalls for this, too. Other than the rest of the markets, the food stalls are not the majority of vendors. In fact, they have just the right amount of outlets, each catering to the gazillion allergies and intolerances.
The upgraded toilet facilities are also kept clean, and they are appropriately placed.
The ground surface is tarred. Thus, it is suitable for wheelchairs.
Parking is ample. However, it is on compacted soil and bit uneven. In recent years, one parking area has more grass on it, which eliminates dust glaring up. There are two parking areas on either side of the market. There is also an entrance to the market from each parking area.
The market does not trade on rainy days, although soft drizzling does not deter vendors.
Trading hours are until 2 on a Sunday. Saturday times, I think, is until 3. But go early, as some vendors pack up from 1pm.
Some vendors only still do cash, so try to visit an ATM beforehand so as to not miss out on bargains.
The scenery is bland outside the market due to it being adjacent to an industrial area, but the sound of the ocean waives, just a mere few meters away, make up for it. Sadly, you can not see the ocean as an elevated railway line forms a...
Read moreAdjusting at 1st was very difficult as people some weren't very friendly. There were times you got badly shuffled as a casual to the slightly older casuals, it was understanding 1st come, 1st serve wasn't always the case. There's the main problem the market struggles to contain and as a result customers has left the market in fear for their lives and valuables because they get attacked inside, exit points and vehicles as they have know protection from Robbers and cars being broken into from the thieves possing as "car guards" around the premises and it saddens me as a victim of such crimes. Having the people scream for help the hardest was hearing the security say That's not their problem they only work inside the market. There are perminent buying stolen stuff from thieves and security allowing them to roam free within the market. Then as Perminent traders we pay lots of money and we aren't even safe walking to our cars as the robbers sits just waiting for us and robbing us of our goods. Finally the bad conditions of the "Toilets" its filthy dirty waste all around and we are exposed to bacteria all sorts of germs and horrible smells and the female traders are not happy. We would like our own separate toilets, they are men using our divisions urinating on the seats and it's not right we are human beings and not pigs. I continue to pray for "Light at the end of this very...
