I enjoyed the time spent here to a degree. The wave pool is nice enough when waves are happening but when it's calm and you are surrounded by bugs and debris it's off putting, the sand is rough, it's not beach sand, the rides are fun enough but wow 10 seconds of a joyride for the lifetime of stairs just isn't worth doing over and over again, of the 10 slides I went on 4, only two of which I I did twice and 1 was the lazy river which isn't really a slide/ride more like laying in a pool with a tube, admittedly I'm more cautious than most adrenaline junkies may love the one's I noped but I saw some scraped backs and that turned me right off. The shops are all so incredibly overpriced I couldn't believe it, I had such an unpleasant experience with the staff at Brew Monkey which really ruined the last day there. That said, if you are a family with children I would recommend, the kids love the place and that may make it worth it for you just realize you will need a sizable budget everyone knows swimming gets the stomach rumbling and you can't take your own food or drink in, that's without any other paid activities taken into consideration as those prices are crazy. The sights around you are truly impressive, beautiful surrounds. The maize was interesting to me, the carved sculptures and attention to detail on the buildings were stunning and lake/pond with a small waterfall at the adult pool was really a winner. I would have loved better service and staff being more cognizant of the fact that this is a holiday resort not only reserved for festive season we choose not to be part of massive crowds but still pay the same and so the service should too! I didn't experience the "lovely, carefree" service I have heard about and being that I was there with family who had raved about the place and said they didn't feel the holiday spirit like they had in the past confirmed to me that I'm not being overly critical. I'm glad I tried it and soaked in a weeks experience but I personally would not push to try it again but I don't suggest not trying it all together everyone has different tastes and...
Read moreI have visit sun city twice over the past 15 years and this was my third time. I am certainly disappointed with the day visitor allowance as this completely ruins the experience for guests staying at the sun city hotel. Unfortunately it is all about money! Yes, I also have a business and I know we have to make money but your tactic is shit as I (and many like me) will not return ever again due to your greediness of allowing so many day visitors in. One constantly has to watch over your stuff. Yes, there are lockers but do you really want to lock up your shoes and towels as well?? You have to keep your towel on the ground otherwise you might lose your spot. I say might because these day visitors even steal the chairs supplied the resort, which my towel was over, right from under your nose! So if they can do that without caring, they will certainly steal your towel and other things as well.
The ‘beach’ is only nice from early morning to about 11am. Thereafter, go to your hotel swimming pool. I feel it’s such a waste because we pay to have the waves included but are forced to not be there.
Even at the swimming pool at our hotel, they try to get in to! You have to give your room number and if not staying there, you may not enter BUT some of them say they are coming to the restaurant and are let in. We saw them walk right past the restaurant and take a seat on the loungers, spending the day there when they aren’t staying at the hotel.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. It was nice before but not anymore.
When it’s quiet in the morning, the lazy river and tube slides queues are short and it’s an overall pleasant experience but when it gets busy with day visitors, not so nice.
*my photos were taken either early morning or right at closing time when the herds of day...
Read moreThe Valley of the Waves has amazing rides and slides. There is a wide selection of restaurants and snack carts to choose from. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of tubes so there are long lines while waiting for a tube for the tube slides.
I would recommend booking tickets online in advance, since ticket sales are no longer conducted at the Sun City gate (and the website does not inform you of this either).
The place is well-maintained and most of the rides were in order when we went. Unfortunately, the Noble Descent was out of order, but the other rides were open and such an adrenaline rush! One of the nicest places to swim and relax is at the Over-21 adult swimming pool, where you can buy cocktails and drinks and chill on the lounge chairs in peace. The Tidal Wave pool was also very fun, but very full when we were there.
There are ample bathrooms and changing rooms, although these are not very clean. You can also rent a locker for the day for your personal possessions, and these conveniently work with a bracelet that you scan to open it.
We also enjoyed the walking trails around the Lost City Palace’s gardens. These were beautiful, with some great views of the Palace, and a great way to take a break between rides.
Another useful feature is the shuttle service around Sun City, which makes it a breeze to navigate from the Day Visitor’s parking to the Visitor’s Centre.
Overall, I would recommend this to families and holidaymakers, as this tiny slice of paradise is an adventure you will...
