Just got back from a vacation at Sun City vacation club. The roads around Sun City are not so nice any more. Lots of potholes. Travelling from Three Sisters via Kimberley we experienced a lot of bad potholes and damage on the roads. Leaving Sun city we had to detour around Ventersdorp as the location near it was rioting and they blocked the roads with rocks making it very scary for us. We ended up on a farm road. Stoney and sandy bumpy road detouring from the N4 to the N14 via Uitkyk. Terrible journey. The toilets at most filling stations were disgusting making it hard to use. So our journey to and from, via road was not so good but we tried to make the most of it. At Sun City we found some pools to be very dirty. Especially the ones at the Cascades and the Soho Hotels. Vacation clubs reception pool was perfect. Our rooms were called luxury at the Aviary units, but we found so many spider webs in the bedrooms, shower and bathrooms. We also found spiders descending from the light fitting in the lounge area onto us as we were seated. The balcony furniture was covered in cob webs and spiders. So why are they not keeping it clean knowing they have guests arriving. I found myself calling house keeping alot. Also when we arrived and we just came from a long drive I kicked my shoes off to give my feet a rest and to my surprise the floors in our Aviary unit was so dirty the soles of my feet went black. So disappointing as we literally walked into a so called luxury unit which is equivalent or should be, to an hotel room. The standard is definitely dropping. The beds are terrible. Hard and our bodies were sore everyday. I just gave up complaining. When I got home I was so relieved to sleep in my own bed and immediately felt the difference of a good mattress as opposed to their hard bed. It literally gave my husband and I soreness in our bodies daily making us feel like we did something to hurt us. I woke up sore and tired daily. Our microwave made a terrible noise and it rattled and sounded weird. It came from the top inner of the microwave where the heat comes from. Making me wonder how safe it was for our food. The fridge froze up our food. It destroyed my Lettuce, eggs and other stuff. Too icy inside for a fridge area. Definitely not an even amount of coldness but was rather icing up our food than chilling. I got so fed up thinking I am on a holiday and I must report all these issues for them to fix. I just couldn't any more and basically left it and became disgusted at how they were not fixing their problems prior to guests arriving. People pay monthly levies for a good service. We complained about alot of stuff and I am not even going to elaborate on that but it even led to security getting involved. Making me feel like a Karen but it was necessary to report. None of these things was our fault. All based on their poor service at vacation club. Another disturbing thing. While we were staying there maintenance men got sent out by house keeping to fix a blocked basin and light fighting and we knew nothing of it and these workers were in our unit whilst we were out. Very disturbing. The aircon in the main room gave off a terrible stinky smell when it was turned on to heat the room a bit. So I have aircons in my home and I know it should not smell like that. For me where is the management in all this to make sure guests have a pleasant stay. They turning rooms weekly for guests to fill up, with no real time to fix the big problems. I am not there to do this for you guys but I go there to have a luxurious relaxing holiday and you not allowing us that. Lastly, I am not saying we had a terrible holiday as we made the most of it. I am saying that the level of service is deteriorating in my opinion, as little things got noticed with regards to service levels and those things determine your rates of service. I felt that it was not my responsibility to keep calling house keeping to fix matters which should have been done before arrival or on the daily clean ups. There is so much...
Read moreWe have been coming to Sun City from the South Coast, KZN for the past 30 years and this year was definitely our biggest disappointment. The standard of service that we have come to experience has dropped significantly! This was only experienced by Sun International staff at reception, housekeeping and FnB. We requested housekeeping to sort out the bed in the 2nd room at 10am, we spoke to and phoned 4 different people. By 4pm, a supervisor promised they would be there soon. At 4pm, we called reception again as we also realized our TV isn't working and the aircon in the main bedroom was leaking. Not ideal not to have an aircon in February in Sun City. At 5pm, we walked down to reception to sort it out in person because no one was getting back to us. The staff in reception were speaking their own language in front of us, I requested they switch over to English so that I could understand what was happening. The lady we were initially dealing with was obviously offended by this request and left the front desk and was never seen again. Thank God Zethu saved the day and we were moved to another room.
The housekeeping staff were "chilling" on the stairs leading to our room, eating and drinking leftovers of the people who had checked out, when we got there with our bags, they didn't move their things out of the way. Or get up. They just carried on with no care in the world.
The standard and cleanliness of the vacation club units is just not what it used to be. As we stayed in 3 different units during the course of the week, we found one consistent LAZY issue in all 3. When the curtains are put back after being washed (I'm assuming), the curtain hooks in the middle of the curtains that are left over aren't being removed so curtains can't close properly. Just laziness. Personally, I like to sleep in utter darkness so having a 10cm gap isn't ideal BUT not the end of the world. The aircons are all somewhat "worn" and need attention. Our phone didn't work in 2 of the units, this was reported.
We had a lovely time but that's purely our own doing. We love Sun City and the facilities. We did have fantastic interactions with the staff of the other businesses on the premises - a lovely gentleman at Calistos, KT @ RoccoMamas, OB @ Spur (VC), Clinton, the musician at Legends! Was a cherry on top. Chris from the Entertainment team at VC was brilliant and made our time memorable. The tennis club, the gentleman there was great and helpful. The guy doing Bingo Roulette in the evenings at the Casino has a BIG personality and was brilliant.
We will be back one more time but that may be the last, depending on whether the service...
Read moreI am writing this to express my deep concern and dissatisfaction with Sun City's management and employees. I am a pilot from Johannesburg,. I called Sun City on 26/05/2025 to check how transportation works to get from Pilanesburg Interntional to Sun City, to which they said I should call anytime and they will come pick up , on 02/06/2025 I landed at Pilanesberg International and called the 0145571000 number, dialed 3 and they put me through to transport, I spoke to the guy on the phone to which he told me it would be R1000 cost, which was not the procedure to my knowledge, I then called again the same way and a lady answered to which she did not understand what my request was, I told her I am a pilot and need transportation from Pilanesberg to Sun City, which may I add the chain of communication and understanding of employees at Sun City is very poor. I then arranged an Uber because I was not going to waste my day stressing over Sun City's poor understanding. I get to Lane 4 at the entrance to which the lady again does not understand that I am a pilot and requested me to go to the garage and buy tickets for entry which again is not how it works to my knowledge. I then got to the information desk to clarify the situation to which Patience was very understanding and accommodating and then called Hope, who was also kind and understanding and confirmed that what I was saying was correct according to her knowledge and experience. We tried to speak to all departments but NONE of the departments wanted to take accountability on anything and they were very not understanding towards the situation and the lady we called at entrance said, "There is a misconception about pilots entry that only pilots with passengers staying at the resort are allowed free entry", again this is not according to my knowledge and experience.
I would like to make this very clear that in Johannesburg we have a wide community of pilots who have been to Pilanesberg to which whoever I asked, ALL have not had the experience that I had , my First Officer had been to Sun City as well and she as well has not experienced this before and it is very unfortunate because Sun City is a place I often visit. I have no idea what happened on the day with regards to chains of communication etc. However I would like this matter resolved and communication within Sun City's management and employees be improved.
I have sent an email and hoping for a...
