I am left with the tremendous disappointment from our stay therefore I have to rate this potentially superb lodge a low rating. Reasons being it was dirty, the Airbnb host company provided misleading information on the location of this accommodation and the overall service was unprofessional.
Myself and a friend attended a wedding which was situation between Paarl and Wellington. Upon searching for appropriate accommodation (‘appropriate’ included being in close proximity to the wedding venue as a lift or taxi service is impossible to find in that area from experience and two woman in a taxi late at night in that area is already a risk) we came across this booking. In Airbnb the listing does not state that the ‘ladybird suite’ is in fact at the Lady Bird Lodge Vineyards. It just shows a location. That location supposedly being close to the wedding venue which turned out to be 30km away. On the day checkin we received the directions and they were completely different to that on Airbnb. In a panic I naturally had to ask where the confusion lay and the host was unequipped to assist. Instead she told us she had to wait until Monday to resolve the issue (which was 2 days after checkout). No resolution has been made, no changes have been made to the address on Airbnb and no communication has been made by management. Hence why I am here writing this feedback.
Not only was the checkin a nightmare I was left feeling robbed.
This lodge is filthy. We have never seen such a buildup of neglect in a place that is asking a guest for payment in order to stay here. The photographs do not portray the true amount of dirt in this lodge. From the front door to the kitchen and beyond.
I do not recommend booking this accommodation especially if you have children and or if you are prone to illness through germs.
It is with sadness to deliver this review as this lodge has so much potential. The owner has taken measures to put extra security around the lodge as there were complaints of break-ins and theft. Read moreMy wife was unfortunately hospitalised just days before our planned stay, and we were forced to cancel the trip six days prior to check-in. We immediately contacted the lodge to explain the situation and requested a refund—if not in full, at least partially. Shockingly, the lodge refused outright and insisted we provide medical proof to even consider any form of refund.
Frankly, I find this request invasive and unacceptable. Asking for personal medical documents to justify a cancellation is completely out of line, especially under such sensitive circumstances. It speaks volumes about the lodge’s lack of empathy and rigid policies. Just because a business may be struggling doesn’t give them the right to disregard basic human decency.

Read moreVery not happy. I booked this lodge with Afristay (Ladybird Lodge). I paid on Afristay full amount of the accommodation and I have to pay again when I arrived. It was a big problem beacause the host tried to cancel many time my reservation (I travelled with 7 people and a one yo baby which was very stressfull). The host said that is an Afristay's mistake and Afristay said that is a host's mistake. At the end I had to pay at the reception almost the price I paid to Afristay.
