Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve — Attraction in uMgeni Local Municipality

We would give a 5star for the nature reserve as it is absolutely beautiful, such a nice breakaway, peaceful, lovely views and hikes. Unfortunately the accommodation was a 1star experience, we stayed in the cottages and when we arrived it hasn't been cleaned for 2 days so previous guests' food were still there, dirt everywhere, dirty towels, no toilet paper, broken eggs on the kitchen floor. A great place for a day out in nature if you are prepared for a walk or a slow drive in your car. We always see zebra and less often wildebeest, blesbok, impala, falcon & warthog. We've occassionally seen, mongoose, secretary birds, jackal buzzards .... You'll hear a lot more if you take a walk aalong dwarves dawdle. The rock climbing is fantastic and routes are well bolted. Went up for a team building and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Nice hike that ended with a slide into the river which was fun. Group activities and educational talks about the area. The instructors were always happy to help and were enthusiastic in the activities. The food was delicious and had fun looking for the different animals.
