Let me teach you how to truly appreciate a coffee:

You order an Americano with hot milk, sip the first ¼ to ⅓ black unadulterated, then top-up the cup with your hot milk and again drink about a ⅓ to ½, now add just a dash of sugar (a full sachet is excessive) and finish the remainder of your cup of coffee. The black Americano allows you to experience the true taste of the coffee, being diluted it doesn't have the intensity of a straight espresso which overpowers the more subtle characteristics of the coffee. Adding the hot milk allows you to appreciate the progression and transformation of your coffee and experience how the milk complements the flavor of your coffee. You specifically have hot milk because the steaming process hydrolyzes the lactose disacharide into its two constituent monosacharides (glucose and galactose) which enhances the taste! You add just a dash of brown sugar (obviously not white) so that the slight molasses content can contribute to bringing out the nutty caramel flavour of your bean.

You can then follow up with a Flat White for comparison.

This approach will pay dividends if followed at The Treatery. You will be treated to a blissful experience even when the drizzle is falling on you from beneath the ill-designed veranda roof.

Finally you write a review, where you make it sound like you know what you're...

My husband and I arrived at the Treatery last weekend as a stop on our honeymoon after having done the Karkloof Canopy Tour. We were wearing sweatpants and may have looked a little rugged and young, but that is still no reason for the shocking lack of service at this establishment.

When we walked in, none of the staff came to greet us or give us menus. When we got the menus ourselves, one of the waitresses asked if we were okay. We asked if we could sit outside and she said yes. After waiting at our table for about 10 minutes for someone to take our order, I went to my car to get a jacket, letting a waitress know that we were ready to order along the way.

When I got back to my husband, he said no one had yet come to take our order. We waited another 5 minutes. Nothing. We went back in and quite obviously placed the menus back at their spot. None of the waiters made an effort to check on us. This experience was so disappointing, especially because the restaurant was not packed or immensely busy. We were so looking forward to trying the food, and now will not get to do so.

We then went down the street to The Hall, which had much better service, smiling and cheerful waitrons, and absolutely...

The Treatery at Yard 41 in Howick is a delightful foodie establishment, offering a cozy, flavourful and all-round satisfying experience.

It has a charming and relaxed atmosphere; and allows for both indoor and outdoor seating

It is neat, spacious and rustic, with modern touches and a welcoming vibe.

Its great for a quick coffee or a leisurely catch-up with friends or even a quiet solo treat.

The place is well known for excellent coffee, fresh juices, and smoothies.

Popular menu items include scrambled eggs, toasted sandwiches, and decadent cakes like lemon meringue and chocolate. However, their carrot cake is one for the books, laden with cream cheese and topped with goji berries..

They also offer vegetarian and vegan options, which are equally as delicious as the regular offerings.

The staff are friendly, attentive and committed to offering patrons a great experience.

They are easonably priced with a reputation for quality and...

Passing through Howick in search of something sweet and a good coffee, we stumbled upon an absolute gem—the Treatery, And let me tell you, the name is no exaggeration! What started as a casual stop turned into a full-on dessert adventure. Six friends, six different cakes and tarts, and not a single crumb left behind. Each treat was a masterpiece in its own right—beautifully presented, rich in flavor, and perfectly balanced in texture. From silky tarts to decadent cakes, every bite was a delight. Paired with a well-made coffee, this unexpected find turned into one of the highlights of our trip. If you're in Howick and have a sweet tooth, The Treatery is an absolute must-visit.

As you walk in you are greeted by a bunch of friendly staff accompanied by some sweet sounds tickling your ears from the speakers above. The place is well kept, upmarket and clean. The bathroom of which there is only one of, is the only downside but, it is clean and well looked after. The menu is super big with a lot to choose from. For me, this is t the greatest as I take way to long to choose something with so many options, everyone’s different 🙋🏽‍♂️The food is well priced and you get what you pay for. Coffee tastes good and milk is done well. Good job guys. I would definitely recommend this spot!
