The Museo de Bellas Artes de Coruña is about 10 minutes walk from the Cruise Terminal. The majority of it is in a modern purpose built structure within the old walls of a Capuchin Sisters Convent. Entry was free of charge. The museum has a large room devoted to engravings by Goya, but there are galleries on three floors displaying Spanish and European paintings from the 16th to the 20th centuries, and Galician painting from the 19th and 20th centuries. It includes paintings by Rubens, Van Dyke, Sotomayor and Pascual, amongst many others. It has a partnership with the Prado museum in Madrid and some of the paintings are on loan from the Prado. Read moreI took my children to see an exhibition on Sunday here. The exhibition was well curated and blended in the old with the new. My huge disapointment though was how several members of staff reacted to my children being there. I have to say that one was very sweet, but two of them shouted very loudly at them several times and followed us around the exhibits. My children are not unruley but, as all 4 year olds they speak loudly and run a little bit. There were no activities for them to do to keep them occupied. No-one tried to explain anything to them. Read morePleased I could get in a visit on a Sunday. Thought I needed a couple of hours but managed to visit in about an hour. Bonus as it was free entry.
All descriptions in Spanish and QR codes takes you to webpage that can be translated. But the audio guide for highlighted pieces are in Spanish. Enjoyed the ground and top floor exhibitions most which had the sculptures and modern art respectively.
Lovely to see several artists present drawing the sculptures.
Staff are helpful. Lockers available plus umbrella stand which you can secure your brolly. Has a tiny shop with merchandise and art postcards, umbrellas, and bookmarks etc. for sale.
