Con mi esposa fuimos a San Juan de Gaztelugatxe que es un emblemático islote rocoso que se alza sobre el mar Cantábrico, entre las localidades de Bakio y Bermeo y conectado a tierra por un puente de piedra y 241 escalones que llevan a una ermita dedicada a San Juan Bautista.

Juego de Tronos: La fama internacional de Gaztelugatxe se disparó al ser el escenario de Rocadragón, la fortaleza de la familia Targaryen en la popular serie de televisión.

La caminata ida y vuelta dura 2 horas mas o menos y hay subir escaleras a la ida mientras que la vuelta es mas facil en bajada pero se sube de nuevo cuando se llega al final.

My wife and I went to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an iconic rocky islet rising above the Cantabrian Sea between the towns of Bakio and Bermeo. It's connected to land by a stone bridge and 241 steps leading to a shrine dedicated to Saint John the Baptist.

I went begining of February - low season and I went on a Saturday morning. No need for ticket - but always check online because normally it is better pre book. Fairly busy still. Beautiful view and site. Mind your shoes. Trainers, comfy shoes. Mountain side in the shade is dangerous, icy and slipper in winter. Bring water. No toilets in the surrounding available once left the car park. Can me done fairly quickly if in good shape. In an hour with pit stops...

Great spot, if you are into GoT. ;) Two warnings

1. you have to book a time slot in advance since the entrance is limited to a certain number of people at a time in order to protect nature. Watch out for the webpage
2. the visit is not an easy walk. Make sure to wear propper boots and to be physical fit. The path itself is solid, however, quite steep. We noticed today some folks wearing sneakers and some with knee injuries - none of them is recommended...
