The castle is a great destination when you want a break from the feasting and beaching in the city below. The walk up is hot and sweaty in the summer but the trees give good shade and there are water fountains at the top (and a bathroom or two). The way up is only adequately marked, and many times you'll find you want a map with none available. Just keep waking upwards, but expect you might end up on a steep switchback rather than a slow and gentle slope depending upon your luck. To get to the statue, you enter via a free museum, but even if you don't fancy that, there are multiple opportunities for panoramic photo ops and there's a cafe on the west side of the hill (a bit down from the summit). My favourite thing for kids is that there are a few "secrets" you can find, including an excluded tunnel and a few abandoned buildings. In terms of difficulty, though seemingly impossible if you have a wheelchair or have a severe mobility challenge, my 4yo son managed to walk up it. Twice.

The hike up takes about 30-40 minutes and is absolutely worth the effort. At the top, we were greeted by a stunning statue and several old cannons, adding a touch of history to the experience. Along the way, the elevated views of all the beaches of San Sebastián are breathtaking, definitely a highlight of the trek. One tip: be sure to carry a bottle of water. The humidity can be quite draining, and staying hydrated is essential. Another plus is the historical ruins scattered along the path, which give the trek an extra layer of intrigue. Overall, it’s a great way to enjoy both nature and history, and I highly recommend it!

It's quite a climb one needs to go through, but the view is totally worth the effort. It may be better to go for a visit earlier in the morning or during the lunch time so you avoid this place getting crowdy. There are also great things of artillery to observe inside the fort, the building itself and a close view of a statue. It seems like there is some sort of a small church inside, but I'm not sure about it's opening hours. Also, I absolutely loved that you can appreciate different view points so that you have a different perspective of all time beautiful view. Overall, a great place for a good hike.

The view is breath taking and there's a free museum at the top exhibiting art pieces and the story of the city of San Sebastián and the multiple times it was reconstructed due to attacks. Be aware there are a lot of stairs and perhaps you will need to stop one time or two to get air and new energies to make it to the top. You will see the entire city and the beaches. No wheelchair entrance and I wouldn't go up there with little children as there are lots of cliffs and it can turn very dangerous as they can fall.

The hike all the way up can be a little challenging (even more during sunny summer days) but it is so worthy! I have been in San Sebastian so many times and this is one of my favorite places. The view... is just BREATHTAKING. The museum at the top of the hill is very interesting (free access) and you can see almost every corner of the city and the whole bay of La Concha from there. Don’t hesitate and take a couple of hours to go to the top and enjoy this not so crowded place! A true hidden gem!

Beautiful walk up to the museum with a bar mid-way and a few cute little picnic spots. There is a good path for push chairs or wheel chairs but the incline is very steep so be aware. Then there's a more rugged path with lots of steps. The views are gorgeous from the top. But there is lots of "tourists go home" graffiti which is the last you want to see after you've puffed and panted up a steep hill. But this anti tourist sentiment can be seen and felt everywhere in donastia/san Sebastian.
