Kursaal — Attraction in San Sebastián

I came here for the San Sebastian International Film Festival. The Kursaal symbolises what the festival is. It gives a better vibe than Berlin or Cannes film festivals.

Kursaal has a room for press people and a room for industry people. There is a room for press conference where you can get audio guides for instant language translation in various languages.

Kursaal's main screens are K1 and K2. It holds around 200 people. The audio and video quality of these screens are one of the best screens which I have come across in my life.

I saw the recent movie of Alejandro Amenabar, While at War and a German movie called The Audition both of which are very good. I saw some other good films like Noura's dream, Adults in the room, la Vérité, which were all very good.

It is located at the end of a bridge and it gives a very nice atmosphere and localisation to this place. You can take plenty of photos from various vantage points.

If you visit this place do not miss going around it especially to its back side which gives a great view to the sea.

Very beautiful Conference Centre, fantastic location in a great city. a 4th Star when toilets will have hangers to hold a jacket, a bag, a coat, a sachet ... or all these have to go on (a toilet!) floor? And soap and papers will be there as should be; a 5th Star will be given when Parking managers will be closed in a mental hospital, so 1) they will stop placing outrageous costs where a client can decided not to be robbed, b) when a client will not be forced to compute the cost per minute (?!?!?) out of hundreds of minutes (??) and furthermore in millionth of a € value (!!!?!!!). El Palacio Kursaal de San Sebastián es un importante centro cultural y de convenciones diseñado por el renombrado arquitecto Rafael Moneo como parte de un proyecto de revitalización de la ciudad, se ubica en un solar donde se encontraba el antiguo casino derruido en 1972. En 1989 se convoca una Consulta Técnica a la que se invita a seis arquitectos de renombre internacional: Mario Botta, Norman Foster, Arata Isozaki, Rafael Moneo, Juan Navarro Baldeweg y Luis Peña Ganchegui, para urbanizar esa zona

Finalmente, en 1990, y de entre las seis propuestas, es elegida la de Rafael Moneo «por el acierto en la consideración del solar K como un accidente geográfico en la desembocadura del río Urumea, por la liberación de espacios públicos como plataformas abiertas al mar y especialmente por la rotundidad, valentía y originalidad de la propuesta», tal y como recoge la resolución del jurado. Entre 1991 y 1994 se redacta el proyecto de ejecución y, en 1995, se obtiene la aprobación definitiva para el inicio de las obras, que comienzan el 19 de mayo del mismo año finalizándose en 1999.

El edificio es conocido por su arquitectura contemporánea y moderna. Se compone de dos cubos de cristal y acero que albergan una gran sala de conciertos y un centro de convenciones. Su diseño innovador se ha convertido en un ícono arquitectónico de la ciudad. El Palacio Kursaal se utiliza para una amplia gama de eventos culturales y conferencias, incluyendo conciertos, exposiciones, congresos y festivales de cine, lo que lo convierte en un centro cultural y de entretenimiento versátil.

Desde su inauguración, el Kursaal ha sido un punto focal para la cultura y el arte en San Sebastián, contribuyendo significativamente a la escena cultural de la ciudad.
